Mecum puts the estimate at 75-100K. I fully understand the barn find "patina" look. This is more of the beat up car all around. I just don't get it. I do for a car that has been bagged with a state of the art suspension. A coyote engine. new interior but not this. At 75-100K I'm SMH... https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0123-539218/1958-ford-fairlane-custom/

Yes - wishful thinking.
I dig the tailored fit of the front seat covers, and the Home Depot indoor/outdoor carpet.
Worth at least three bucks right there.
Wishful thinking indeed,plus it's really,really,ugly IMHO...
Some rich drunk whose mom took him to school in one of these will be buying it after fierce bidding with the guy who cussed and swore at the POS one he owned in high school.
I've seen vehicles with real patina, usually a rod shop or Morrison chassis, state of the art suspension, a late model or older $$$$ engine under the hood with a modern trans, high dollar interior, updated electronics and such where you have basically a $$$ restromod covered up with a patina "clean" body. This car has some old 428 ragity looking engine as the only mod I see along with faked and actually bad done removal of lower paint as it's "weathered" patina. To portray it as something that is high dollar than a tired old heap is really a joke.
Nothing new here. This is the trend: make it look old and ratty. Not too long ago this was called 'An old car, with a newer engine swap'. I won't be surprised, some fool at the auction will bid on it to over 100K.

What new here to me is that Mecum is hyping it price wise and desirability wise like it is a resto mod in sheep's clothing. Maybe I missed something but other than aftermarket wheels, cheap hubcaps, disc brakes and chromed bumpers and a later "used" FE there is nothing resto mod or "rare" barn find to justify their estimate. Hagerty #4 is 9800 and #1 is 33K for the highest 4V option engine. I don't see 90K in upgrades...They said newly upholstered split bench seat but it isn't in the pics and the rear sear is horrendous.
90k worth of "patina"?!?!

The 'hype' is done for a reason...to generate excitement for the upcoming auction. More hype, more money.
