Nice shot
What serial number gents?
The guy Driving, is he with a Singing Group like "Jan and Dean"?
The guy driving was a Hair cutter to the stars, Jay Sebring, he changed it from his real name - he was killed the night of the Manson murders, Cut Steve McQueen's hair and Carroll Shelby's and Paul Newman.
McQueen and Robert Vaughn, the actor, were invited to the party the night of the murders but neither went. McQueen was on Manson's hit list.
"Thomas John Kummer, known professionally as Jay Sebring, was an American celebrity hair stylist, and the founder of the hairstyling corporation Sebring International. Sebring was murdered by members of the Manson Family along with his ex-girlfriend Sharon."
Jay Sebring & Sharon Tate
That sure looks like the LAX West Imperial environs, however those are not the 6501 hangers.
Perhaps further east towards Garrett
AirResearch or North American Aviation?
Apparently he owned csx2220, but does shifter look more like a 427 arrangement with shift lever positioned forward?

Looks like 36-26-36?
Jay Sebring also cut Jim Morrisons hair. He had a 66 GT350 and Jim really liked it. He told his record company he wanted a Shelby Mustang and they bought the infamous "Blue Lady" 1967 Nightmist Blue GT500 for him. I do not think the Murders would have happened if Steve Mcqueen was in the house. He would have fought back for certain.

I believe he started carrying a gun and did so the rest of his life.
Was the photo staged? Publicity for who? Or an actual event. ???

This image has been posted before, can't seem to find the previous thread. I think the reason was in that thread, it might have been staged but can't remember what for.
I was at the Lime Rock Historics a few years ago and a gentleman had Sebring's 289, CSX 2220 there. I think he was surprised that I knew who had once owned the car. He had a Connecticut dealer plate on the rear and the original black/yellow California plate on the front. He was pleasant to talk with and let me sit in it for some pictures.
Another weird Cobra Manson connection:
Terry Melcher has been credited with helping to shape the sound of 1960s surf music in California......Melcher and Johnston also created another group, The Rip Chords, which had a top 10 hit with "Hey Little Cobra".
In 1968, Beach Boy Dennis Wilson introduced Melcher to ex-con and aspiring musician Charles Manson.
Manson met Melcher at 10050 Cielo Drive, the home that Melcher shared with his girlfriend, actress Candice Bergen, and musician Mark Lindsay.
Manson eventually auditioned for Melcher, but Melcher declined to sign him. There was still talk of a documentary being made about Manson's music, but Melcher abandoned the project after witnessing Manson fighting with a drunken stuntman at Spahn Ranch. Wilson and Melcher severed their ties with Manson, a move that angered Manson. (Beach Boys Mike Love wrote years later - Terry, Doris Day's only child, was extremely close to his mom. He had told her about Manson – and about some of his scary antics, his brandishing of knives, his zombie followers – and that Manson had been to the house on Cielo and she insisted he move out) Soon after, Melcher and Bergen moved out of the Cielo Drive home. The house's owner, Rudi Altobelli, then leased it to film director Roman Polanski and his wife, actress Sharon Tate.
On August 8–9, 1969, the house was the site of the murders of Tate ...Jay Sebring....by members of Manson's "family". Some authors and law enforcement personnel have theorized that the Cielo Drive house was targeted by Manson as revenge for Melcher's rejection and that Manson was unaware that he and Bergen had moved out.
And continuing in the small world department, surely everyone knows that in the group of people mentioned previously, Jay Sebring wasn't the only Cobra owner. Who saw Dennis Wilson, drummer in the Beach Boys, drag-racing his bright yellow 289 Cobra at some L.A. tracks in the late '60s?

Knew he owned one - didn't know he raced it.
One more Shelby/Manson connection. Connie Kreski was supposed to be at the house that night as well
San Fernando Raceway in California and the Cobra supposely was Dennis Wilson
