So today I received the Dennis Carpenter Temp Sender so I immediately compared it to the NOS version. Visually the NOS one has different engraving and different size connector and different color rubber. I call that a fail. The NOS one is on the left, the terminal on it is #12 - 24 while the one from Dennis Carpenter is a much smaller metric size.
(Note that I changed the name from Daniel Carpenter which was incorrect)
I set out to test the units functionally. I put a glass of water in the microwave for 2 minutes. The resulting temperature measured with my Snap On digital infra red temp indicator was 170 degrees Fahrenheit.
Comparing the two units I read about the same ohms from both units so functionally I think the unit from Dennis Carpenter is OK. Note that both read infinite Ohms when cold.
This is the NOS part being tested.
Temp sender resistance rotated right side up.
Thanks for doing the comparison. Daniel Carpenter is typically known for better reproductions then this . I agree a fail on a couple different levels . What a disappointment.
Thanks for the testing. The sender you received looks like a typical contemporary aftermarket part, completely different than the photo shown on Daniel Carpenter's website link.
I also ordered one and received it yesterday. I was very disappointed when I opened the box and noticed right away that the insulator was black not red. I stopped there and contacted Dennis Carpenter. The lady who helped me was very nice and offered to refund the entire purchase, including what they charged me for shipping. I explained to her that, their picture on the website clearly shows the red insulator. She said they are changing the photograph on the website immediately and that she was very sorry. She took the time to check with someone and apparently they have switched vendors who changed the appearance. In spite of the problem, I was very impressed with the customer service. Oh well, hopefully a NOS unit will cross my path one day.
Great job on the testing Royce!
Thanks Royce for your scientific approach.
This is tremendously helpful and I think fair to say, what we all wanted to know.
I also received the black insulator when I ordered Temperature Sender - 1965-68 Ford Car
