I have to say this is the first time I have read this story from The Shelby American, Volume 5 No 6, December 1980 and the best word I can find to describe it is precognitive.
I would have normally added this to those were the days... a glimps of SAAC Historical Publications (https://www.saac.com/forum/index.php?topic=28180.0) but I think it deserves its own thread.

Wow, I never saw that story before. Read it with a little imagination, and you will tear up like I did. Bravo.

Hence, SAAC 50 or Bust.
Nice story I could hear Rush in the background singing the red Barchetta.

Unfortunately with all of the political operations going on I can now see rumblings below the surface of something I once couldn't imagine. Banning the muscle cars, and eventually all private owned cars.

An appraiser came over to see me last summer to appraise the cars for their insurance policies. After looking over the cars, he said, "where do you drive these things". In Toronto, as in other urban centers, the traffic has become so terrible that we can no longer go for our Sunday morning drives because we can't get back into the city when we're finished. And we have to worry about people following us back home to steal the cars.
But every time we drive them, we do change a few hearts in minds.
That was a great read frm the past. Like they say: Out of site out of mind but never forgotten.
The reading reminds me of Brave New World or 451 Fahrenheit.
Visions of National Treasure and the barn find phenomenon
Great read! I also thought about the Rush red barchetta song, one of my faves.
