Title: 68 Shelby GT350 Survivor / Barn Find (8T02J) For Sale
Post by: greenehouse on January 16, 2025, 05:02:07 PM
Vehicle Details:
•   Color: Wimbledon White (stripes removed at dealer prior to initial delivery)
•   Transmission: Automatic
•   Factory Options: Air conditioning
•   Mileage: 105,000 miles (purchased with 5,000 miles in 1970 -owned ever since)
•   Location: Walnut Creek, California

Ownership and History: This iconic GT350 has been under my care since 1970 -including any mechanical work, making it essentially a one-owner vehicle. I bought it with just 5,000 miles from a gentleman who worked for our family, and it's been part of my life ever since. Between 1970 and 1975, I put 100,000 miles on it, after which it has been a rarely-seen garage treasure. This vehicle has been in storage since 1975, first in Illinois and then in northern California since 1989.

Condition:
•   Exterior: The car is mostly original. It has original paint except for a foot long crazed repaint area on the top of the right front fender (due to fiberglass stress crack in nose cowl) and left rear fender (parking lot incident). The paint still polishes very well.  There are a couple of dings in the right rear fender and one on the rooftop. Typical rust is present in some areas due to its Midwest origins, with the driver's door suffering significant rust from a forgotten flashlight left during a hinge replacement. A spare original door (not repro) with the required square trim holes is included.
•   Interior: The interior is in excellent condition, with a small wear spot on the driver's upper bolster. The headliner has been replaced. Floor mats are original.
•   Mechanical: The drivetrain is fully original as is the suspension with the exception of Gabriel Striders still on the car from the '70's.  The engine runs well with good oil pressure -50psi warm. Compression readings range from 115 to 135. Minimal mechanical work has been performed over the years, exclusively by me.  This includes replacement of timing gears/chain and the steering gear box due to excessive play. Recent work includes a re-built brake booster and bled brakes. There currently is a slight leak at the rear of the water pump. The transmission has a minor leak, and the AC has not been charged since 1975, but the clutch engages and the compressor turns freely.

Provenance:
The GT350 is listed in the 2020 and 2014 '68 registries. I have comprehensive documentation of my ownership since 1970, including the original Illinois title. This provenance is available for serious buyers.

At 78 years of age, I've decided it's time for this classic to find a new home. It would make a fantastic survivor driver or a solid base for restoration. I hope to see it cherished and driven by its next owner, appreciating that "they are only original once".

Don't get discouraged. Serious buyers don't make excuses, they buy!

A lot of tire kickers will try to beat you up.

I'm very happy to report the car was sold to a gentleman who wants to preserve it as a survivor / driver -as opposed to a full restoration. I'm sure it has many more good miles remaining.  Regards, Dennis
