Post by: Cobrask8 on January 20, 2025, 06:50:09 PM
I have one, gifted to me 30 years ago. Just need to dig it out.

I will sell, but looking to set a value.

Assistance?

Been doing some searches. IS there an easy way to clarify if a repro or original?

One area that catches my eye is the inlaid snake. Some follow the contour, others have a gap.

If it has big of irregular gaps its not a production part

I sold a few originals on ebay. Both very nice. Both fetched just over $400. Pete is correct about the reproduction ones as having large gaps in the recessed snake area between the snake and wood handle.

I have a handle that looks like this (no snake) bought 35 years ago.  Were repros sold that long ago and would someone dig the snake out of the recess?  Otherwise why route a recess for it without a snake?

The snake emblem was glued into the routed out recess of the wooden handle by the vendor. I have known of cars that had the handles where the snake fell out and I have personally owned ones where I had to reglue the emblem when it came loose. There were many variations of the wooden handle sold by Ford and a generic plain wooden handle with no cut out was one of those variations. The regular production and some of the early over the counter snake handles had the recessed outline for the snake that matched the outline of the snake closely. Apparently later service and reproduction handles were produced to a lesser standard in regards to the outline in the wood for the snake emblem. The repro handles started to ba produced more than 40 years ago.
