Title: Brighter tail lights
Post by: TS69GT500 on February 07, 2025, 11:54:28 AM
What is the best option(s) to brighten the tail lights?
I have a 69 500.
Don't want to risk melting the housing or lenses.
I've read multiple articles in the now defunct Mustang publications however I'd like
to hear if anyone has real world experience and can provide recommendations.

Thanks,
TonyS

Simple answer would be LED bulbs

But I would look at West Coast Cougar site conversion for your 1969

Solid State - Taillight Sequential Unit - for STANDARD / PLASMA LED BULBS - Repro ~ 1969 - 1973 Mercury Cougar / 1969 - 1973 Shelby Mustang

cleaning grounds and  all connectors  will help  dramatically

Call and talk to Bill at Hipo Parts Garage

https://www.hipoparts.com/

Might want to upgrade other lights also. I bought new dash lights and a wiring kit for having brighter headlights. I could hardly read my gauges but I can see them very good now

On my tail lights on my 67, I had some metal chrome-ish tape, I think it was for heating ducts..I taped it to the tail light back that was silver in color, that helped it look so much better. I did clean everything I could as far as the plugs, yada yada yada, I still have a few pain in the @&& lights that dont work as they should....but I am thinking of getting LEDs and see what happens.

Make sure the inside of the tail light lenses do not have a layer of dust on them. And likewise make sure the reflector surface is clean.
