Does anyone know where I can obtain an original or repo oil pan for my '66 Shelby. The suppliers of the repo units all seem to be out of stock. The car is in the shop now and the mechanic thought that buying another pan might be better than doing the repairs on my existing pan. It's already had a corner area repaired (which I was unaware of) and the drain plug pan threads are stripped. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

ebay and patience
Depending on the severity of the damage and some patients, I'd recommend making repairs to the original oil pan. You can blend the welding out and come back with a sand blaster to dull the finish. It won't be exactly as OEM, but you can get it close. Its part of the cars history.

Thanks, Cory! The only issue at this point is getting the drain plug hole threads repaired. There are a couple of options but at least it will be easier to work on once removed.

an aluminium bung, style/dimension at your discretion, is a common/easy fix.
If the aluminum pan attached to your vehicle is an "original" or even "period aftermarket", I'd be fixing that! ;) It's very repairable, though I shouldn't belittle the challenges of attempting to clean suitably for welding of aluminum castings that have been exposed to oil, under heat and vibration for decades, but we've done it may a time. :)
Besides, the newer "re-pops" 'suck'! :o

+1, lots of obvious differences, plus they weigh more than originals.

I would recommend to anyone that has the T-pan off to make repairs to the drain plug threads. They don't wear well with lots of oil changes over the last 60+ years. You can only go oversized so many times and you don't want to get stuck with a failed threads when you need to be able to drive the car.

Yeah, the frigging things are boat anchors! :o

The shop is going to fix the original. That's the most feasible approach at this time. Thanks so much for everyone's input. I was unaware of the quality issues with the repops.

Good choice. Always best to repair/restore original parts if possible.
I've done the HeliCoil `repair fix on two or three `drain plug holes with excellent results. OTOH, if `they've already been wallowed out to way oversize, that complicates matters.
I've got a really nice reproduction T pan for sale if interested Paul 707-227-6604
Wouldn't happen to be the boss 302 one by any chance? Got A friend that was looking for one.

What does an original 66 Shelby aluminum T pan go for nowadays?
