I'll let you know soon, I did one on a very high end build of a 67 GTA Fastback.  I used the electric power steering with Total Control manual rack unit.  Car will be finished up next week.

Hey Shawn, I'm interested in doing the same thing on my 67 GT500. I don't see an EPS option from Total Controls. What EPS system did you use and how did it work out for you? Do you have the part numbers you used for the build?

Guys, attaching a picture of the mystery wire. It did not come with the replacement ammeter wiring harness. That came as described with only two wrapped wires. When I disassembled the wiring on the alternator, ammeter block and solenoid, I did not take note of where the now mystery wire started or connected. My bad.  As Bob says, it is not relevant since the ammeter takes full power. So that is done and thanks for the reassurance. I still would like to know if anyone can identify the wire. Maybe it got put on in error when there was an alternator replaced?

I am still uncertain of the correct wiring for the ammeter. I have a replacement "harness" which consists of the Shelby Red from ammeter + to the starter solenoid battery terminal and the Shelby Black from ammeter- to the ammeter block in the illustration that JD(thanks) sent. There is a third wire, not included when you purchase the harness. It is a black wire with a resistor built in it. I think it goes from the alternator output post to the ammeter block, but I cannot find it in the schematic I have . If that black wire is supposed to reduce the power going to the ammeter, I don't see how it works if that is the correct circuit connection. Am I OK with my assumption on the black resistor wire? Can someone explain how that circuit works? That's a lot of juice and I sure don't want to have it wrong!

Just a quick heads up and thanks to Bob Gaines for his tip to remove the steering wheel. The rat-a-tat-tat worked like a charm, came off with no effort at all and only one shot with the pneumatic hammer. Way to easy!

I ordered the Gear Vendors overdrive, should arrive around the first of the year. Looks like a good winter project along with a rewire. Will post how the overdrive performs when I'm done.

I'm considering putting a Gear Vendors overdrive on my 67 GT500 C6 automatic. The stock rear is a 3:50 and while that is great for stop light races, it keeps my engine screaming at today's highway speeds. I am still using 15" tires with the 70 profile so that is still a stock setup. Travelling 400 miles on open interstate with even the 18 wheelers rolling at 80 puts me truning well into the mid 3000's I'd like to add the extra gear just to make those segments of travel more comfortable. Anyone done this? If so, are you happy with it? Any information welcome. Oh, yes, I will save and store any removed parts.

My speedometer has gotten bouncy at speeds under 40. Seems accurate and steady over 40. I have checked that the cable is well seated in the back, and that seems OK. Not sure that is a symptom of the cable starting to fail or the speedometer itself? So any diagnosis is helpful. Also, if needed, is there a recommended rebuilder or just replace it? Thanks

Anyone done the 22 gallon fuel tank conversion on their GT500? Considering it before launching off to Indianapolis. Counting on a 3 gallon reserve, I fill up at 130 miles with the stock 16 gallon tank, 22 gallon will get me 190. Any thoughts, done it?
