SAAC-49 / Saturday Car Show Results
July 29, 2024, 10:47:00 AM
For those who were there, THANK YOU for attending the SAAC/Team Shelby Car Show on Saturday.

The day was beautiful, and so were all the cars on display.  Here are a few 'stats' from the show:

 - 114 cars registered for the show, but there were over 200 cars on display
 - 107 people voted in the Popular Ballot portion of the show.  That's 94% participation!
 - 736 votes were cast to determine the Popular Ballot winners
 - The car that won "People's Choice" had 29% of the attendees vote for it
 - The Judged Class was selected by 4 judges, consisting of both SAAC and Team Shelby members

Very special thanks to the Team Shelby crew who helped set up the show, park the cars, register/check-in the attendees, answer questions, judge cars, help with the awards ceremony, then break it all down and pick up the trash!

Additional thanks for our show sponsors, Cobra Automotive, Inc. (care of Curt Vogt) and Tony D. Branda Shelby & Mustang Part (care of Anthony D. Branda II).

Trophies were presented as per the below list. Congratulations to everyone who went home with 'glass' from the show.....

REGISTRATION IS OPEN!!!

Thursday, June 3rd ~ Sunday, June 6th

Team Shelby Northeast is at it again, celebrating our Shelby history for our 2021 event, and we would like to extend a personal invitation to our SAAC friends to join us. This year's event has an overriding theme that will weave its way through the weekend. Join us as we recreate the thrill of the "Carroll Shelby School of High Performance Driving!"

As our Logo indicates, we will be at Pocono Raceway for a day of High Performance Driving. Additionally, this year we are collaborating with Ford Performance Racing School to offer formal driver training from a professional Ford instructor. If you are a novice and are looking for 'the basics', or consider yourself an advanced driver looking to shave a few tenth's of a second off your personal best, there will something for you to learn during our classes. If you are brand new to all this, consider our Touring Class option to get yourself out onto the track.

Besides spending some time up in the Pocono's, we will host a 150+ mile Poker Run with a planned stop at the oldest Brewery in the United States, participation in the Carlisle Ford National's, dinner in a 200 year old historic barn on an estate that is on the National Historical Register, private car shows, a "Thanksgiving" dinner, Team Shelby exclusive autocross competition, and even an ice cream social!

The weekend will be filled with friends, food, driving, plenty of beautiful automobiles, maybe a little bragging, laughing, Shelby family, and as we say at Shelby, "Some damn fun!"

Details and registration information can be found here....https://www.teamshelbynortheast.com/upcoming-events/
Once registered you will receive a confirmation e-mail with our host hotel information. If you are tracking your car (which you really should consider) our Track Steward will also contact you with more information.

Full disclosure: Due to the ever changing nature of the current COVID rules/guidelines, we are late on opening registration this year. Some aspects of this event are still in flux. To ensure everything we have planned moves forward, attendees CANNOT wait until the last minute to sign up for this year's event. If you wait until we are within a 10 day window so you can see what the weather will look like, you will be too late (you cannot imagine how many people sign up in the last week!). Please sign up early (do it today if you know you are attending) so we know who will be joining us and we will be sure to hit our minimum attendee numbers long before the event. This is most critical for those who intend on tracking their cars. If we don't have sufficient track registration by mid-May (a minimum of 30 cars, not including Touring Class, and 15 students for Driving School), we will be forced to cancel our track day. So if you're a 'Track Rat', sign up now and bring a friend. All makes/models are invited to join in the fun.

See you at the 2021 Team Shelby East Coast Grand Nationals!

On my calendar.  Hope to make it this year.

Last Saturday, Gary Patterson and Tracey Smith issued a challenge to Team Shelby member to 'take it back to the track' by registering to drive their cars on track at the famous Pocono Raceway complex.  Many other groups picked up the challenge and helped spread the word.  I was humbled to see support from Shelby American, Superformance, our friends at SAAC, Shelby Legendary Cars,  Carroll Shelby Racing and countless Shelby/Ford car clubs, etc.

As we have come down to the final hours of this challenge, it pains me (more than you can imagine) to say that, even with all the support anyone could ask for, we came up short of the finish line.  We do not have enough participation to make the track portion of our event economically feasible.  Alas, there will be no track day for this years East Coast Grand Nationals.

So you are probably wondering what will you do on Thursday instead?  Thursday is now your opportunity to choose what YOU want to do!

There are so many options available at the Mount Airy Resort and surrounding Pocono area that you will have a difficult time picking just one or two things to do.  The resort offers a full Spa, indoor/outdoor pool, golf, and or course a Casino. Tours of wineries, cideries and a distillery are nearby.  Some of the ski areas offer Alpine Slides down their mountainsides.  If you want to go "cowboy", there is trail riding (both on horses and ATV's) and a shooting range.

So venture off by yourself or team up with friends for your own mini-adventure.  The day, and the choice, is yours!  All other aspects of the Mount Airy / Pocono Package remain intact. To ensure CDC compliance, we moved our Thursday evening dinner from the Banquet Hall to the more private Club House on the golf course; I consider it an upgrade to our evening and the views are beautiful.  The Friday Poker Run into Carlisle is unchanged and details will be in our electronic Event Survival guide.

I look forward to seeing you in the Pocono's as we demonstrate the resilient, tenacious spirit of Team Shelby.  NOTHING will quench our passion or stand in the way our our friendships.

Bill Caron
Northeast Regional Director, Team Shelby

ps - If you were one of the attendees who registered for the track, you have my heartfelt thanks for supporting the event. Please contact HOD directly with questions concerning reimbursement.

I am postponing our Shady Maple Breakfast until sometime in the Spring.  At that point there will be less going on, the weather will be better, and hopefully we can get a few more folks to commit to attending.

If you were planning on going, and are looking for something Shelby related to do on Saturday, I suggest you check out the Simeone Museums Demo Day featuring a Ford vs Ferrari theme, as well as costumes and other items used in the filming of the movie.  If you attended the premiere in Philadelphia, your name will be on the guest list and you will get in for free.

Although multiple people asked for another trip to Shady Maple, the response up to this point has been rather limited.

If you are going, please respond to this post by midweek (11/20).  If replies remain low, I will reschedule our breakfast for some time in the Spring.

If you are planning on attending, please reply below so I can give Shady Maple an approximate head count.

When: Saturday, November 23rd at 8:00am

Cost: $12.50 + tax/person

Join us for breakfast at the largest buffet in the USA. Located in the Lancaster PA area, and featuring home made Pennsylvania Dutch cooking, Shady Maple must be experienced to be believed. Everything is made fresh daily and prepared on-site. When you arrive, park all the way to the lot on the left, across from the banquet hall entrance (see map in the post). When you arrive, go to the reservations desk and tell the hostess you are with Team Shelby so she will seat you with our group.

Please post below if you will be attending so Shady Maple can get a headcount and ensure there is enough room for our group.

See you there, and if I was you, I'd stop eating at least 3 days prior to our breakfast.
