Appeals / Radiator recore
February 21, 2025, 12:50:18 PM
I have a 1968 TVR Tuscan, owned since 1968.  It's totally original, engine, trans, rear, interior, etc. including its' radiator that has sadly started to leak when pressurized.

So, does anyone know of a shop that could recore this radiator?  The tanks are on the top and bottom.  Dimensions are 22" long, 15 ½ tall, 3" wide.  Might be a little tricky due to the fan shrouds.

I could get a nice shiny Griffin aluminum radiator with a Spal fan like other TVR and Griffith owners have done, but it's the UK branded Kenlowe tagged original and its' unique fans I'd like to keep.  It could be copper or aluminum core, just need to keep the top and bottom tanks.

I live close to the Virginia Beach area (ideal), but could travel or box it up to mail it if I have to.

Thanks,

Here's a couple pictures:

I have a handle that looks like this (no snake) bought 35 years ago.  Were repros sold that long ago and would someone dig the snake out of the recess?  Otherwise why route a recess for it without a snake?

Couldn't get my bowls to stop leaking using various online speed-shop gaskets.  Got a set of gaskets from Drew . . . no more leaks.  Use the man's parts.  Save yourself the aggravation.

When my wife and I were married, my salary-challenged job meant my 68 TVR Tuscan was our only car to commute in.  I told her that when she was driving she must continue my streak of never losing a street race, especially against any GM infidels.  Hot blond in a sports car got lots of attention, but she performed admirably.  Streak stayed intact.  I'm a lucky man.

I have these tires on my 66.  They're tall tires.  Probably will rub with a shelby drop.

Appeals / Documentation

What would be the proper procedure for requesting copies of any available documents that SAAC has pertaining to my car.  Auction pictures of shelbys on BAT, for example, show a variety of documents such as invoices, etc. that would be of interest to any shelby owner especially the official Serial Number Verify document.  The only thing I have is a 2019 email response from Howard Pardee verifying that my vin matches 6s855.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1985 Holley reissue 715 3259-1 that's dribbling gas inside and outside its' bowls. The front metering block is marked 4756 and rear is marked 4560 the same as the original 65/66's.  Are they the same?  I don't know, but clearly it's time to check for float problems and replace the gaskets.  Since this is a 4150 style carb I could try to match up my current gasket holes with pictures I see on various vendor ads, but there's no guarantee what's in there now is correct.  Here's a typical ad for 4150 replacement gaskets:

I'm hoping someone with a reissue carb has been down this road before and can give me a hand.

Assume for a minute that the HX is short for the 3rd and 4th digits of a Ford trans part number.  C4HX-6068-?.  I found a part number decoding site https://automotivemileposts.com/ford/fordpartnumbers.html that shows "H" in the 3rd digit as Holman Moody HiPo and "X" in 4th digit as Special or High performance.  Just a theory.

Up For Auction / Re: 5R538 - Monterey 2021 - Mecum

I was at the Daytona SCCA runoffs in 1969 crewing for a BP vette driven by a guy in my reserve unit.  He DNF'd.  But I remember hearing the ridiculous rpm's Kemp was running on the high banks that were so much higher than everyone else.  We were sure he'd never make to the end turning revs that high.  But what did we know.  We were a busted plastic pig team watching from the pits.

Thanks to all.  Too bad Ford waited until 67 to simplify adjustment without shims.  A pox on whoever designed the early systems.
