SAAC-49 / Re: Paddock or garage space
June 18, 2024, 10:54:14 AM
Hey JT1,

For NJMP the garages were available to rent directly from the track. We (SAAC) were not renting them, we simply directed folks to contact NJMP directly. A few weeks ago, someone else asked me this very question and I decided to check in with NJMP to see how many garages were left to rent and sadly, even a few weeks ago they were all sold out. Our event is sharing the track with SVRA's Speed Tour so there will be a fair amount of interesting vehicles present.

You are always welcome to check yourself, I suppose it's possible that if someone cancels, a garage space could pop up. The phone for NJMP is (856) 327-8000 and the email is info@njmp.com

See you at SAAC 49!

Yes, there is a fee. For SAAC Members looking to come to all three days the fee is $70.

There will be a much lower fee available at the gate for a single day pass. Those are not available before the event.

If you just want to come for one day, Saturday will be the day of the car show, that's likely the best day to just enjoy the sights.

Hope to see you there!

Hopefully some of the real veteran SAAC folks will reply here but having been to about 6 conventions myself, I will say the car show is a very big highlight. It takes place on Saturday and there are hundreds of cars in the show. Last year, at SAAC 48 it was pretty much a 50/50 split between late model cars and the OG cars.

As for the swap meet, while I think it's gotten smaller over the years, there is still some very vibrant and interesting things going on there. Good mix of commercial vendors and members with parts on a fold-up table.

I'd recommend you have a read here, which will give you a good flavor and some photos of the last convention:

SAAC-49 / SAAC 49 keynote speaker announced!

The SAAC Dinner and Evening Program is one of the highlights of our convention. SAAC is happy to announce that the keynote speaker at this year's convention will be Tom Cotter, also known as "The Barn Find Hunter." Tom's engaging talk will take place just after the SAAC Dinner on Friday July 26th 2024.

Cotter is a well-known figure in the automotive world, particularly for his expertise in locating and restoring "barn find" vehicles. He has been involved in the car restoration industry for over 50 years. He is also an accomplished author, having written several books about barn finds, including "The Cobra in the Barn: Great Stories of Automotive Archaeology."

Tom gained widespread recognition through his popular series "Barn Find Hunter" on Hagerty's YouTube channel. In this series, Cotter travels around the USA, discovering and exploring forgotten classic cars. His enthusiasm and knowledge about classic cars not only make the series entertaining, but also educational for car enthusiasts.

Tom has loads of Shelby stories. For example he purchased his 289 Cobra, CSX2490 in March, 2001. He flew from North Carolina to San Francisco to pick up the car and drive it home, using only 2-lane roads. The trip took nine days. R&T writer Peter Egan accompanied him and Egan wrote about the trip in "Cross Country Cobra." The article was featured in the 2/02 issue of R&T. The car is famous for its luggage rack on the trunk with a large, battered suitcase strapped to it, covered with stickers from various places Cotter has traveled with the car. Notable is the prominent "Dan Gurney for President" bumper sticker. Cotter and the Cobra have been on several 1000-mile Cobra tours including one to Alaska where a grizzily bear tore through the soft top in order to get at a box of fig newtons left behind. CSX2490 was also pictured on the cover of The Shelby American's Spring 2017 issue.

Tom Cotter's passion for automotive history and his knack for telling captivating stories have made him a the perfect speaker for the SAAC 49 Evening Program. Be sure to register for SAAC 49 so you too can enjoy the myriad of events we've got planned including Open Track, the Simeone Museum Visit, a Road Tour and Poker Run, the Shelby Car Show, Concours d'Elegance, and lots more!

My email was not correct in the registration, so I did not receive the confirmation email or hotel list. David, can you provide assistance please. I didn't see where my email could be updated. Thanks

Sure! Send me an email at info@saac.com with the correct email and I'll see what I can do. You MAY have to change it with MSR but once I get your email I'll send you the hotel & garage info...

What day is the event at the Simeone?
It is Friday the 26th. The current plan is that there will be effectively two groups going to Simeone, the first group are people who are not tracking. They can arrive at Simeone as early as 10am and enjoy the museum as long as they desire. A presentation will take place at 1pm.

A second group will be people who are participating in Open Track. Those folks will leave the track when they can but before noon. That should give them time to arrive before the 1pm presentation. They can enjoy the museum as they like. The SAAC Hosted dinner will begin at 7pm (with cocktail hour starting at 6pm) so there should be plenty of travel time.
