Up For Auction / Re: Starter Delays on Ebay

Okay, thanks, I guess. Why would the starter be energized twice? And did other Fords require this part or just the late 60's model years?

Have to admit that I have never heard of a starter delay, just a starter relay. What is the purpose of this part?

If compensating for driver weight were the reason for the offset, then right hand drive Cobras should be offset the other way. Is that the case?

CSX 3000 Series / Re: Motion King Cobra

Has anyone ever identified the CSX of the Motion Performance 289 Cobra?
#6
No, that is not a 2000-series Cobra tach. They did not have the red zone on the face, in my experience.

Very nice, thanks for posting those photos. You didn't happen to find any Cobra pictures from the 1963 Paris Show, did you? I would be very interested in any that anyone has, and they would help solve a long-standing mystery regarding CSX2186 and COX6002.

Just a small point of disagreement with what Dan said about Cobra horn placement, but CSX2186 has the horns mounted in the engine compartment, not out in the grille area. There were many anomalies in how the cars were equipped in the run-up to 2201.

Back in 1978 I bought a new K5 Blazer and had it Ziebarted immediately because Blazers were notorious rust buckets. After about 6 years, the only rust was on the bumpers, even though they were coated on the backsides, and the metal part of the roof(!). It seems Chevy painted that with a new material that wasn't supposed to require primer. Hah! GM did cover the repainting, but I've never looked at buying another GM product since.

What's with the braided lines tapped into the carb spacers?

Very sorry to hear Carl Mentz has passed away. He was a good guy.

If that is a BRE Datsun, it's a very early one. They used to have lots of spoilers and flares and dramatic red, white and blue paint jobs, if I recall. It does have a BRE decal on the rear quarter, though, but maybe that is just from buying parts like I did ;D

Back in the mid '70's I lived in Missouri and travelled the state for a large pharmaceutical company. One day, while heading west on I-70 towards Kansas City, I saw a 289 Cobra on a trailer heading the same way.. I followed it for several miles until the pickup and trailer pulled off at an exit and the occupants went into a Holiday Inn for lunch. Turns out it was Mack Yates CSX 2385, which was an independent comp car, and it was headed for a local race. The occupants were Yates' crew. In those days, to come across a Cobra was an extremely rare event, and I've never forgotten it.

Just a guess, but maybe a replica. They race a lot of Kobras in Europe.
