It was nice while it lasted.  I guess it is as they say " All good things must come to an end".

100%. Gold has always been a bear to match.

Quote from: Chris Thauberger on November 19, 2024, 07:28:31 AMWas the car recently restored? Who painted the car originally? They might have the formula used to mix the paint. Since car has been garaged/covered not a lot of fading. Matching should not be that complicated for a competent painter given the new spectrophotometers used to match paint.

As for the fender, based on the one picture it is absolutely repairable IMHO. I fixed worse than that when I was a body man. Trick will be to find someone who can massage the metal out. Most auto body repair theses days is R&R (remove/replace) with new cars. That is what they teach the new generation of "auto body technicians".

The car was painted over 20 years ago using an industrial/commercial paint system (DuPont Imron something not commonly used in the auto repair/refinish industry and then a Spies/Heckler system sprayed on top of that) according to the owner. If you think this color would be a easy match using a paint spectrometer your in for a hell of a surprise, it may get you half assed close to start with but anything more than that you would be damn lucky. I have seen this car in person, but not since this accident and the owner did contact me about this shortly there after.

Great car. A 428 car built on 4/28 how poetic.

Nice! We have an early Acapulco blue one. Your red car appears to be an early car also?

Back in the day the industry standard bulb numbers were 4000 (Lo 3 prong) and 4001 (Hi 2 prong), today it is 5006 (Lo) and 5001 (Hi) # bulbs. They are roughly 5 3/4"dia.

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Re: Brakes seized

If both front brakes are (were) dragging and loosening the line at the M/C released the brakes then it is more than likely the M/C at fault.  If it is just one wheel dragging then open the bleeder screw on that caliper. If the dragging goes away replace that hose. If it is still dragging after opening the bleeder replace the caliper. You said that you just had the fluid replaced/system bled so more than likely some debris or sediment could have gotten into the M/C bore and caused the piston to stick, although most of the time when that happens it causes the fluid to bypass the piston seal resulting in no brakes. Scary sh*t on a single chambered M/C vehicle. One other possibility is that whoever replaced the fluid put in the wrong fluid , like a petroleum based fluid that can swell all the rubber parts and wreak havoc on the system. DOT 3 & 4 brake fluids are water soluble. Take a small sample and mix with water it should dissolve. If it dos not that's bad.

Great for you and him. My dad would have been just short of 95 now. He was a car and motorcycle guy just like me,(or I like him). He had a few Indian's back in his youth. I really never got to take my dad out in our KR, but my wife took him for a short drive in it once at an INSAAC Spring Fling. She has a 68 GT/CS with manual drum brakes. So she gets in the KR with my dad as the passenger and comes to the first stop and steps on the brakes hard as she would in her GT/CS. Damn near launches him into the dash! Now my dad was not the quite type and was usually pretty loud. But his only comment to her was "the brakes work good".

I had a paint less dent removal guy take out some small dents out of a 66 trap door with excellent results. You might want to give that a try.

If any one of our members would need more info on this car I could provide some insight as I have done some mechanical work and an evaluation of the car in the last year. I did mechanical work only ( made sure it was in good running order ). I did not do any body, paint or restoration work on the car or know the shop(s) that did.
PM if seriously interested. I do not have time for tire kickers.
