Of the 60+ cars I've owned, this is the first time I ever bought back one of my 'old' cars.
I originally bought this in 2012 as a decent resale red fastback on eBay (go figure). Legit California black-plate car that came with a mild 289 and T5 already in place. Did some upgrades over the next six years and traded it off. It left looking exactly like the picture below.
When I originally had the car I swapped in a full Global West front suspension, subframe connectors, interior sound deadening, Wilwood 6-piston front brakes, JME / Autometer gauge panel, Fox body front seats recovered in Mach I style material, 3-point seatbelts, trunk-mounted battery, fiberglass hood and side scoops, rear-seat delete tray, Plexi side windows, and a ton of other stuff. MASCAR Auto repainted it red after I traded paint with a guardrail in 2014. They did an amazing job.
Out of the blue 2 years ago I got contacted by a gentleman from Ohio who now owned the car but re-sprayed in the requisite white / blue livery. We kept in contact, and I followed along as he swapped in a nicely built 331 stroked small block and a 9" rear. Somehow, he got tired of it and decided to sell - it took me all of five minutes to buy it back. It was on a trailer two days later.
It was and still is an amazingly tight and reliable driver, it's been on several long-distance trips from my place in southern California to the Bay area and to Phoenix twice. It has been driven to and circled Willow Springs and will be at SAAC 50 this coming August. Its way more fun now with a stroked small block under the hood, a set of 3.70 gears to get it moving and some 200 treadwear Falken Azenis RT615K tires on a set of 16x8 Vintage Wheelworks rims to keep it glued to the pavement.
My plan is to enjoy the heck out of it and continue to upgrade where it makes sense.
