I didn’t purchase new but only because I had purchased a set of Vics sticks a few years ago. He is also releasing a newer version of those sticks soon. Vic did state i would have to have his sticks for the plasma led to work, his old or new version. My car didn’t have the sticks in it when I got it so I was kind starting from scratch and the tail light harness had been cut. I’ve been told they don’t look like the originals to closely. My trunk is a bit of a hot mess because the harness has been cut. I’ll post a pic of the sticks tomorrow. I don’t think I have any on my phone. I will say I was happy with the regular bulbs last year when I got everything working again but it is absolutely amazing the difference in brightness with the led. There is no doubt they are on...

Let us know about the LED's and use with factory electronics. Usually they require a resister for use in the 69/70 system.  On my '67 I noted that the ammeter in the pod below the dash moves quite a bit to the discharge side with the vehicle not running and the turn signal being ran. So I would imagine that they do load the turn signal switch a bit.  If you happen to put you hand on the plug on the brake light switch you'll also note it gets pretty warm during application.

I can't speak to my ammeter because it hasn't worked in quite some time but that is precisely what Vic explained. The 1157 bulbs draw lots of power. The electronic flasher is needed but the bulb went straight into the socket with no changes needed to the harness. I was surprised it was so simple. He claims they draw 1/7th of the power. He did say however that a person would need to change the dynamite sticks if they were original or repops not purchased from him. At this stage their brightness and functionality has me sold. I'm not in a position to have #2196 as a concourse car but rather a fun driver I take to local shows and cruises.

I was finally able to call and speak with Vic last week.  I explained what happened and the picture above and his response was, "you saw the magic smoke".  Essentially, he explained why the statement is on his website that the led plasma bulbs he sells doesn't cause turn signal switches to "burn up" which is what I saw happening.  Bascially, the bulbs 1157's pull so much power with the brakes on for long periods of time it causes this to happen.  His bulbs draw 1/7th of the power which keeps the switch from overheating and burning up the switch.

I ordered another new switch, the bulbs and the electronic flasher.  Hopefully this will fix it.  Vik was convinced it would.

Thanks for all your help.  I'll install them tomorow and get her going again.

Took the car for a ride in April and while sitting eating ice cream I smelt a burning smell and then saw some wiffs of smoke coming from the steering column.  I killed the battery and towed it home.

I finally got around to looking into it today and I found this.  Last winter I replaced the turn signal switch while repairing the tail lights.  I purchased a brand new repop part.  Any guesses as to what would cause this?

I have a similar situation. The Marti report listed #2196 with a different axle gear ratio than the standard vin decoder and the registry lists the convertible top as black but the Marti report as White. Which would likely be correct?

Thank you for your response.  I chose to replace the turn signal switch this winter and that area is very tight.  I'll pull it and look deeper into it.  The fan switch is still a mystery as well.  where does the ground for the fan switch run? Any thoughts on this?

THanks.

So I'm on a date with my wife on Friday and we're sitting eating some ice cream.  The car is running cause my key ignition switch is starting to fail.  As I sit there we notice a funny smell then I see some smoke coming from what looks like the steering column.  So I shut off the car, pull the batt cable and tow the car home on a roll back.

Saturday I get a moment to open up the dash.  I pull the Steering wheel, the dash cluster, the ash tray and ignition switch to "look" and see if there is any obvious charring.  There is none.  I hook the batt up and wait to see if I can see anything, and there's nothing.  I run the car looking intently for smoke but don't see anything.  then out of the corner of my eye is see arcing.  The heater/defroster controls are loose and the fan is in the on position.  And it is arcing from the control panel to the metal dash, turn the fan control off and it stops.  It's only a few millimeters away but still its clear as day.  Then today I install a new ignition switch and put it in place.  Again I start the car and check the controls and same result.  Arcing when the fan is in the on position.

Then just for grins I hit the horn and it shoots sparks out of the ring in the wheel that makes contact with the horn.  Tried it again with the same results.

I can't imagine this is normal or right.  What on earth is going on? I'd love some help if anyone has run into anything like this before or has any thoughts...Thanks.

I am working on something special for the 2019 Rallye66 Benefit Car Show which is held in Carthage, MO on Sunday, April 28.  While I understand this is a long shot to work the way I've dreamed it, I'm gonna cast the net out there anyway.

One of the greatest comments I get when folks see my 68 GT350 Vert is, I can't believe you drive this car.  To which I respond, isn't that why it was made? What good is a car you can't drive?  Anyway, the public loves Shelby's.  They are such an iconic part of our Muscle Car Culture and I love sharing that with people at our local shows and while I may not win very many awards, our Shelby is often the most looked at and discussed and questioned, lol.

So, to the point of this post.  I am making a Shelby class this year for our benefit show.  It would include all years and all makes of Shelby's.  So yes my old 68 would be in competition with a new GT350 but the class isn't about the best car but about the fascination the public has with these cars and the joy they get in being close to them.  I am officially inviting any who can make it to our event.  I realize the group of people who will actually be able to come is very small due to time and location and distance but I am extending the invitation all the same.

Our show is a benefit for a local Ministry called Peterson Outdoor Ministries.  The folks there work almost exclusively with our wounded combat vets.  POM provides hunting and fishing opportunities for these vets and is equipped to take even the most severely disabled veteran out on these hunts.  The amount of lives they are changing through their love and care is amazing.  They are making a difference and inspiring these men and women to live life again.  They reach out veterans of all our nations conflicts.

Below is a link to our site.  I am still updating the website for 2019 but most of the information is there.  Thank you all for even reading the post.  God Bless and I hope to meet you in person on April 28.

FYI-We are smack dab in the middle of Route66, AKA THE MOTHER ROAD, from Carthage you can hit 3 states in about 30min of driving hitting MO, OK and KS.  Lots of iconic sights to see here.  66 Drive-in, Joplin, MO, Galena KS where the original Tow-Mater is found.  Tons of fun.

The rubber mats in black seem to look dirty all the time. I went with these. Lloyds mats.

And they look fantastic too. Thanks Keith

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Brake Light Switch

OK.  So I'm needing some help on wiring again.  I'm still having some issues on the right side of the tail/stop/turn lights.  Left side is great and bright.  I did a test yesterday and found that the right side is pretty glitchy.  Sometimes it works and sometimes not.  Sometimes dim etc..

I dug under the dash and took some pics and found what looks to be AN issue.  Perhaps not the issue but it can't help.  Looks like the brake light switch has some very sketchy wiring.  Could y'all help with where to get replacement wiring.  I've looked on Coralsnakes site but didnt' see this particular piece.

The brake light switch is easy to find but the wiring seems to be different...

Here's a look at what I have.

Thanks for the help
