1965 GT350/R-Model / Re: R Model Heads, Cam and Intake

The heads were production C5OE hipo heads with the banana water ports welded by HydroHead out here in California. Pallets of these modified heads were sent to both Mondello and Valley Head Service for full portind and combustion chamber work along with the "chevy valves".
The intakes were ported ( as the small letter Cobra intakes were small ) and the last runs built in '66 used large letter intakes also ported. The camshafts were ground by Engle ( a California grinder) and often their HL56 profile. One way we used to tell original heads was by the stamp noting how much they were milled and blue anodized aluminum retainers for the valves. I still have one set of original heads and one cam.

Rogers Porting Service, North Hollywood were also used by SAI to modify heads.

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Re: Pittman arm?
November 17, 2020, 10:33:49 PM
6S2020 has original "survivor" pitman arm and has the original "survivor" yellow paint on it.

Have mentioned it before in other posts(maybe even a photo) on here only to be poo poo'd by the "experts"

I have lots of details from 6S2020 a car that sat in a dry long beach workshop and did not move for 36yrs 76-12

I gave up sharing these details on here long ago.........

For me it is all about the 1/4 window. From the moment I saw the window in '66 I knew I had to have one.

Randy, hit the nail on the head. The 1/4 windows, are the major focal point, of the 66's.

So much so, I remember, several friends with '65's, went right over to Shelby's store, in El Segundo, bought
the 1/4 window kits and installed them in their 65's.

One of those 65's, lived in Dave Dralles (rip) shop, for a long time and I bet Randy, knows about it.

      Doug

Got a chuckle from this. Reminds me of the '63 Corvette owners that removed the split window because they preferred the "clean look" and visibility improvement of the '64 rear window. Flavor of the month. I'll bet there are not too many '65s with the 1/4 windows still around today?

One came up for sale on BaT today

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1965-shelby-mustang-gt350-5/

Good find 2112! I recall seeing this car listed for sale on Hemmings a few years ago. According to the notes on one of the accompanying BAT photos a previous owner replaced the louvers with plexi quarter windows to improve visibility "so he could see better when he was racing". Function over form? Interesting that "R" Models, that were built for racing, were completely blocked off.
The quickest lightest option.

Maybe each member should start a thread with the dealer info for their car.  I have thought about it in the past, but never did.  A period picture of the dealership, business cards, license plate frames etc.

Clearly Ray Wolfe's business card that I posted a picture of from The John Atzbach auction is legit.

The phone numbers are one and the same with the ads referenced in the first post on this thread.

Ray Wolfe advertised Jims car for sale up until October 2, 1971 in the LA Times.
So ....unless Ray fraudulently listed a 1967 GT 500 with license plate VRD 389 (known to belong to Jim Morrison) then, this is indisputable proof that Jim Morrison's  1967 GT500 was in existence and in running and driving condition three months after Jim died in 1971.

Very Interesting ^^^^^^

The plot thickens.....
I don't follow.  What does a generic 67 sill plate and a Ray Wolff business card have to do with Morrison's car?

QSS
Here is a more personal Ray Wolff business card. I believe the shop on the card advertised in the news paper the car for sale back in the day . Who knows what the significance of the typical sill plate emblem is.

Bolt on parts red-oxide was fairly consistent, much more than the undercarriage.  I would not use the same color primer as the undercarriage on those, the typical dp-74lf red-oxide is usually close enough for bolt-on parts.

Also, I didn't read the thread completely, but it's common for there to be a different color/shade of red-oxide up under the front frame rails extending to a line perpendicular with the face of the firewall.  The thought on this is the automated spray jets were not used for that part since the middle ones would have blown up through the engine bay opening.  It's something that most have never noticed or duplicated.  On some 65 cars with black primer on the belly, the front frame rails were sprayed red-oxide... further reinforcing the thought about the spray jets not turned on for the front part of the car.

+1  6S2020 is like what Charles has seen

If the body is truly rust-free and straight, then you're about +$25-30k ahead of the restoration game and would have a better car in the end compared to one that had extensive sheet metal replacement.

Automatic probably hurts the value a little, but red/gold probably makes up for that.

+1 to what Charles said.

Rust free, straight body and complete original car is the key to a painless resto and a better end car.

Pay more for better, i doubt the average guy is going to find a 66 project in any condition for under 80k.

I would say the car in question (if checks out) would be 100k +

JMO

Like I said, I would go 90K and if it was present to me for 100K I would take it? That is a realistic number, however what we have found that even though it might be nice, they might need just as much work as one that looks to be nicer, so pay a little more for nicer, is "buyer beware" as a lit of sin can be hidden, don't kid yourself.....these cars are not getting younger....even storage can hurt them.

I'm not kidding my self, been there done that, to all sorts of cars and bikes, got the T-shirt.

I did not use the words "nicer' or "looks to be nicer"

Rust free, straight and complete is the better way to go is what i said

An inspection soon sorts out "Nice" from reality.

I don't think you will by this car for 90k JMO
