Concours Talk / Re: 67 gt500 concours suspension paint

Quote from: J_Speegle on August 17, 2024, 12:39:37 AMCorrect paint colors?  Since you wrote that you are restoring the car you should be aware of that very little of the suspension had paint on it originally. Lots of bare steel and heat treated/quenched steel made up the vast majority of the parts. Many had bright freshly machined or ground areas for special purposes.

Lower (fixed from originally posting upper :(  A arms were painted but only the inner (as mounted) approx 2/3rds of the assembled arm.
Jeff you quote heat treated/quenched steel, how do you replicate that look? Once you bead blast parts what are you using to get this look?

Quote from: J_Speegle on September 23, 2024, 05:28:55 PMYes the upper a arm bushings are threaded as shown in the picture below

As for the markings there are typically stampings near the inner arms where the bushings are attached and out towards the end (ball joint) as Bob mentioned. IMO the markings are part of the details that make up the car. The weight you place on them may not be the same as another person. It's your choice and car when choosing how far you will go. For many its a very difficult location to see so they are sometimes over looked or not added if someone is restoring a car with reproduction parts

Jeff what about the flat headed screw that appears as if it holds the outer nut that threads into shaft? Also in your Pic it only shows a rubber o ring is that all that hardware and it doesn't use a rubber bushing like other upper control arm shafts? I have not disassembled mine yet but was inquiring so I have all when reassembling.

Goo afternoon my inquiry is are there markings or date codes on an original upper control arm and if so where to look? Also if I need to replace the shaft bushings on a control arm how as it appears to be threading on each side of the shaft rather than an appearance of pressed in bushings?

Thank you Jeff and Bob as well as all others.

Thank you and yes I understand that there were painted and unpainted components, that is what I'm asking about. Such as my understanding is the dust shield behind the front rotors and rear drums were bare metal on hubcap cars but on kelsey hayes mags they were painted black, is this true? As well as different steering components were painted ,or in color, bare metal?

Hello all as I travel this road of restoring my car I'm having difficulty getting the correct paint colors of my suspension and brake components.  I have read and attempted to view several restoration videos and articles the process seems to only be more clouded with each one I watch and read. I have #210 built 12/10/66. I would deeply appreciate help and more clarity if possible.

I'd like to thank all of you for the info and photos for reference as well. You're correct there are a lot of issues to be resolved in this restoration if to do correct.

Thank you for the help.

Thank you. One question was the reinforcement added after build as my 67 gt500 shock tower reinforcement plates are stitched welded but they are ugly, was this normal? I'm restoring mine and was wondering should I clean the welds up or leave as they might have looked like this from original build?

Quote from: J_Speegle on August 12, 2024, 07:47:38 PMLooks like holes drilled to access the back side of panels and areas for rust proofing. You will likely find them in other parts of the unibody and door edges

Often these were plugged with small plastic plugs. If your restoring or they bother you make them disappear

My other side has the plastic plugs in them. If doing a concourse restoration should I try to find plastic plugs or fill in the holes.

Concours Talk / 67 gt500 battery
July 24, 2024, 04:44:42 PM
Good afternoon all I have viewed this forum lots but first of many to come ?s.i have a 67 gt500 #210 that I'm restoring and I'm wanting the correct concours battery for my car. I have the marti report and it does not list heavy duty battery so my question is what's the correct battery and can I even get? From what I know it needs to be an autolite sta-ful 24f, but with yellow top not red top.
Help if you can.
