When we bought my wife's '22 Lincoln and my '24 Super Duty we got the x-plan plus other discounts (some we weren't aware of). It all depends on the dealer so shop around if they don't cooperate.

I have a press now that I didn't have back then which may have made the job easier... good luck...

Where do you get the replacement rubber from?
I bought Gabriel shocks and pressed the cross bar out (use lube) and pressed them in. It has been 12 or so years since I did it but like I said earlier it takes a lot of patience. I didn't take pics of the process but I have pic before and after.

I have missed out on a few cars because I waited to give the family some time only to find out later they sold the car very soon... :)    :-\    >:( If you know someone close to the family get them to tell them you would like a chance when they decide to do something.

[quoteDoes anyone make an attractive, yet protective, cover for that console pad? I find that I often rest my right forearm there, and would like to preserve and protect that imprint when driving. Any suggestions?][/quote]

I have kept a couple of towels in my cars for decades. I have been able to find ones that match the interior color and one stays on my console lid for the same reason as you say. I have towels in my Shelby, Wife's Lincoln, two Superdutys, Silverado, and all my Model A's. They help protect the lid and have come in handy after getting caught in a downpour several times.

I should have said Interior toggle switch on the console.  I'm pretty sure that turns on the front and rear side marker lights, the rear tail lights, and the dash lights on my car.  I don't believe the front turn signal running lights turn on with the Interior toggle switch on my car, but this is going from memory.
My bad...I responded to the wrong post... :-[

If your console toggle switch operates anything other than  (a) fog lamps or (b) interior lights, then this is your problem...sounds like someone has butchered your wiring somewhere...Good luck... :)

[quote Plain ones (without the snake) were sold through may speed shops and in catalogs like JC Whitney and Honest Charles

Interesting but I doubt Hertz or Ford would replace one from those sources ( who knows) but probably from a Ford  dealer. My car went from Hertz back to Ford then I bought it so I wouldn't expect a third party part but who knows... :)

I can't speak for the 1st year of my cars life but when I bought in in July 1970 (built April 7th) it had a non snake handle. Since it was a Hertz car someone may have taken a souvenir.  :)

QuoteHow were Hertz cars sold after they served there purpose as rentals? Auction?

I don't know about the '68's but the (some or all???) '69's including my '69 #2060, were sold at Ford dealer auctions. Maybe Hertz also sold some.  :)
