If its original, I believe it has mechanical contact points.  Might open the box and look.  I'd do a wholesale swap of the rear bulbs first as its easier, but unlikely the problem.

I replaced the guts of my '69 sequencer with a solid state board 20+ years ago and never looked back.

Long wayward member back for more.  Picked up my '69 GT350 27 years ago this month.  Car #2099, bought it from the 2nd owners needing lots of love, but the car was essentially complete.  Rust free west coast car, has all its original sheet metal.  I'm taking her to SAAC 50 come hell or high water.  Here she is in the golden hour:
