I am guessing you did tighten the screws :)  mine gasket had several cracks in it but I am thinking it was the original gasket from 69 :)

there is a horde, well last I counted like 30 of these cars at the kissimee mecum auction.  I have friends near there I am thinking I will go to the auction and check out the american musclecar museum while I am there.

It would be cool to meet up with one of you experts there if any of you guys are going.

that $91,500 estimated retail is what insurance paid out, not the buyback or what they expect to bring at the auction.  At least thats my understanding, and thats the way it is on my work truck that is on copart.  I bet it sells for 65k and I dont think its worth that.

Thanks guys!  so probably original intake, cant beleive i missed the shelby lettering on the intake, and incorrect but period nice rare carb.

Special Ed liked your story and thats cool you liked the lowly 68 gt350 so much compared to the other cars.  was the 67 a four speed as well?

saw this on a 68 gt350 today 80s rebuilt non matching motor.  Matching motor was in the garage but had a cast iron intake sitting on top, not installed.  I did not see cobra or shelby on the intake but it looks right otherwise.   Carb is that for 65-67 gt350s?  it has the replacement sticker on it.

I have a work truck on copart right now and as far as I know I still have the option to buy it back.

I agree though I don't know where this car is a bargain at but I don't believe it will sell for one.

Its tempting, it looks nice.  But yeah teardown, replace wiring harness flush everything. Water is sitting in the engine/trans/rearend for 5 months before they actually sell it...  Who knows what you can save.

at what point is it worth the risk? 30k?

Ok I emptied my in and out box they were both full with one message!  Maybe it's because I am a new member?

Probably best to just text me I have talked to some super cool people!

Oh and thanks for the fb link I already have a yellow b302.  That car was supposed to be competition red and the engine sounds like a paint shaker in the YouTube video

100% agree a basketcase is a labor of love. And a loosing $ proposition.  That said I am ok owning one :)

what does a legit concours type restoration cost now.  Like an original car with all its parts there, teardown, rebuild, body, paint, assembly, paint markings, stickers etc?  Best case scenario 100k?  or can it be 75k?  From one of the handful of guys in the nation that know how to do this?

I don't intend to go down that path, I am more interested in having a good driver or sweaty survivor.  Bonus points if its actually one that could logistically be restored.  like the bat gt500 below.

something like the 73k gt500 project to Brets 89k gt350.  Brets car is a great candidate, but I kind of prefer a 67-68 or a 69 gt500.

Hello  Long time 69 mustang guy and have had a Factory five cobra for 24 years :)

I am looking for my first og Shelby.  I would like to keep it around the 75k mark but can stretch over 100k for the right car.  Non running is ok but much prefer and intact car.  Automatics are ok.  68 is probably my preferred year but I am open!

Thanks!
