Wouldn't surprise me if a few 70 model year cars were issued black plates as well. Anything can happen with the DMV. Many years ago I saw a 69 Mach 1, I ran the plate and it came back as a 70 Ford.  Thinking I made a mistake I ran it again, still returned to a 70 Ford yet this time I looked at the vin return and saw it indicated a 69.

Ended up talking to the guy and his family bought the car brand new and the DMV registered it as a 70.  The driver said his dad tried to get it corrected a few times early on but DMV wouldn't do it. His dad gave up trying to resolve the issue.

He said that every 5 years or so he would get stopped and he showed me a  registration from the early 70s with his dads name on it showing Model year 1970 with a 69 vin.  Id love to see the comments if that car ever ended up on BAT.

Quote from: 6s1640 on March 03, 2025, 04:17:10 PMIt interesting that the "H" is left off the fender striping.  I wonder why?

Cory
Back in the day the rental car stigma was a negative. It was not uncommon for some of the typical black cars which were so typically identified as Hertz rentals were painted white or other colors before or shortly after resale to try and disguise the heritage. Those same cars typically left the H off for those same repainted cars. Remember there was no way to tell if they were a X Hertz rental car until the later 1970's and even then only a small few were dialed in the SAAC registry to figure out the history of each. Of course a gold stripe hints of what it could be but back when owners personalize their Shelby to their own taste it wasn't given much of a second thought. This is especially true back when only the black cars were typically associated with Hertz and most enthusiasts were unaware that Hertz cars came in another color besides black. I am not saying it is for sure that is the case of the car that is the subject of this thread here but it certainly was for many other 66 GT350 X rental cars back in the day. Up until the late 80's the Hertz cars were considered the red haired stepchild of the 66 Shelby's and consequently sold for substantially less . Fast forward to today and the value is at least as much as a similar GT350 if not more in many cases.

Hi Bob,  Yes, agree with your assessment and have known this for sometime.  I just find it strange that in this modern era, where ex-rental SAI cars are now revered, that the missing "H" has not been put back.

Cory

The H was never there but like Bob G. said these were not gold striped cars and the ones Ive known about were white.

Some early ones never had an H on the fender stripes

800K will be very tough. 4 car garage would be a very very expensive house.  I am not to familiar with areas an hour or even more east of San Diego so perhaps you could find something that way.  A very nice condo in a desirable area in So Cal with its own attached garage starts around 750K

San Diego is awesome.  Ive been trying to move there for years but to get an equally priced home our property taxes would be comparable to the mortgage of a nice home in most places of the country. Ca is very nice but respecting your request (as well as forum rules) Ill leave it at that.

Is WOB a company?

A broker who I believe deals exclusively with BAT.

Last car I sold near the end of 2024 was thru WOB on BAT.  They charged 7 percent but I could not have been happier with the outcome. It ended up selling for way more than I expected. The question wasn't asked but as far as buying I just got a very nice car on the Vette forum, just like I picked up 6S1117 on this forum almost 13 years ago.  Now a days I would like to find a car before it hits BAT.

If I had a vintage Shelby American product I would consider Vern selling it for me. His presentations are as good as any and of course his knowledge of the product is awesome as well.

Quote from: Coralsnake on January 20, 2025, 12:25:21 PMOne last thank you to everyone that has donated and expressed concern for Bobs terrible experience. I hope to have updates in the future.

Thanks for doing this for Bob. Just sent a small amount, wish it could be more. We should all send whatever amount we can. For those that don't know Bob, he truly is a great person.

Thanks for picking up Bigfoot. Feel so bad for our friends car.  As you said, at least he and his family are alright.

Also, this got me thinking, I'm going to make some extra spare keys for the old cars and pass them out to one or two friends.

Granted this fire didn't leave a lot of time and others may be busy dealing with their own crap but it can't hurt.

So sad to see that KR.  The owner, as well as his wife are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Ill miss seeing that beautiful car driving up and down PCH.

And, btw, Shelby American is 7 miles from my house.

Same Weather???

I live at the beach.... Not where its 500 degrees in the SUMMER  8)  8)  8)  8)

Truth be told... California has its problems and I hate the politics here...

However, I can drive "any car" 350 plus days a year.

Agree. Hate the politics but it can't be beat for everything I love. Motorcycles, great roads, amazing car culture, beach, and some of the best mountain biking in the country just a 7 minute pedal from my house.

We deserve every joke we get but I've lived in crappy weather and will never go back to it. I get the home prices are ridiculous but to me a house is just a place to keep my toys. I prefer being outdoors hopefully on two or four wheels and for that it's tough to beat LA (with the exception of San Diego).

Quote from: Steve Z on December 30, 2024, 09:49:00 PMI would not let that bother anybody? It is a Cyclical world . The cars that are hot now and will always be is 65 to 72 . Just my Opinion.

Digging thru some old magazines last year I came across one from the mid 80s with a 65 GT350 and a 67 427 Vette on the cover, under the title of Blue Chip collector cars. 40 years later nothing has changed in that regard.

For the second year now Conejo Valley Cars and Coffee show will be featuring Shelby. Last year was a very good turnout with about 14 or so vintage Shelby American / Automotive products.

Of course there was a lot of newer Shelby stuff as well but the emphasis is on the vintage cars.

Yes I know LASAAC has their meeting that day and next year I will ask the organizer to give me more heads up to avoid any conflicts.

The show is at the Oaks Mall by the Firestone tire center starting at 7 and going till 10 or so. Hope to see some of you there.
