Yep very true  i bought a 8 year old used local ford truck back years a go that was in good shape but ended up replacing the cab corners (very costly as the bed has to come off the repair correctly) and drove it for 7 years and sold it because the rockers and bed braces were rusting out. I then looked for a west coast truck of which i found from a guy who moved here from CALI. and its totally rust free so in a long run (unless u own a body shop) its best to pay a little more if u have to to buy a western vehichle.

I been talking to eastern ford guys who never been to that part of CALI  and  gonna make a vacation trip out of it and i think the vacation crowds will be winding down by later august as skool with be back in session so hopfully no kids running around everywhere. I have been to west coast many times over the years inspecting and buying cars and (years ago anyway before the big metal crush) buy rustfree suspension and lots of good parts. I bought 5 cars out west over the years  and filled them full of parts and shipped or hauled them home. I had the bright idea of using a roll of duct tape to tape 4 original windshields to the windshield of a parts car thinking if they all layed together they would be very strong and make the trip back east. When the open transporter got here my car was under another car and a chain was hanging down from above car and beating all my windshields so they all got broken on the trip back from west coast so much for that bright idea!!  I always tried to make somewhat of a vacation out of my western  car trips since there is so much to see and do and a tax write off HAHA yeah right!

WOW phil thats another loaded KOOL goood looking cat and i just found  out where that car is and  was told a yellow one is in california ?  That coral drag pack vert is a brass tag car as many brass tag cars are  fully loaded. Interesting is these 2 rare drag pack verts coral and blue were only 100 miles or so apart in iowa.

When i found this cougar back years ago in tampa fl i told hank (george brother) to go buy it since hank and george are big cougar owners and they had it for awhile then sold it to  FL collector todd werner who had it restored and i went down to florida restoration shop with brian styles to try and buy it since i regretted not buying it myself as i knew it was rare but after much research found out its much rarer than a drag pack shelby convertible. I asked the owner who inherited the car from his dad who was an indian from iowa of which i found odd so i looked up the selling dealer Axtell Ford newton iowa and there is an indian reservation outside of that town AND a dragstrip was in that area so that all adds up. I found an original metal Axtell ford dealer tag and its back on the decklid of this rare cat. Only 7 XR7 cougar drag pack convertibles were built and this one is hurst 4-speeed ram air so it dont get much better than that and i think there are only 2 others out there known to exist but i have never seen one in any magazine or show anywhere so has anybody ever found or seen another drag pack cougar convertible ?

He should have made many more like matts as it has the c7ze number and fomoco and the c7ze isnt perfectly lined up like i see on originals.  I had a Very hard to find mustang torino 429 cj scj fan shroud that i thought was OEM. till i compared it to the original on my car and backside was different but front looked correct so i contacted some 429cj guys and they said crites made some long ago from a splash type  mould  that  were made by hand but it never had the hand laid matting like the 67 so crites must have changed the way he was making them and i was told his were all hand made and time consuming to make so thats why they werent mass-produced and very limited production.

Matts shrould  is very well made and signs of FOMOCO markings and painted over black. If crites made it he did a good job and must have been made long ago as it looks old and used over the years as its much better than any repos i seen in last 20 years or so.

And its hand laid fiberglass on backside thats been well done so its either an old repair or its another vendor or early prototype made as thats the first big block mustang cougar fan shrould made and its original.

Those are better dates so people traveling from east can go to montery car week racing auctions and pebble beach the quail etc all happening a few days before SAAC 50 in the same area so lots of car events to make the trip worthwhile.
