Up For Auction / Re: 5 Original Restored Cragars on BaT

Bob, yes, I used quotes on "legally" to convey that it was not a quote verbatim.  Perhaps I used the wrong term.  The liability issue is certainly the underlying rationale for not using original rims.  Thanks

I'm pretty certain I saw this discussed on here more than once...He can't "legally" reattach a non DOT marked rim back to the center, even if it was manufactured that way.

So it begs the question...Why pay more than double for original centers on new rims?   I can see the argument for an intake manifold, valve covers, oil pans, a carb or other items that remain as manufactured after they are refinished or restored.   Once half of the item is replaced, it's not really "original" in my view.   But clearly the buyer has a different view!

Ironically at the end of the day they (original and replacement) both look the same front and back. Same DOT compliant replacement rims and the centers are cast by the same company that did the originals and the same in appearance.

Is there any way to distinguish a replacement set from a restored, re-rimmed set?  Both have the same S1MS part number?

Anyone know details on 5S482?   Seems like a pretty fair deal?

Broad Arrow's website lists CSX 2159 as sold at $1,402,500.  This is big premium over CSX 2450.
I'm assuming there is more to the story here?  Don't know.

Does $857k seem a little light for CSX2540?   About right?   I would have guessed over $900k.

Quote from: Rickmustang on June 07, 2024, 03:19:36 PM$261k was good offer IMHO for a race car with a '65 Shelby tag 😁

I tend to agree also, I valued mine at $175k-$200k in race trim...But this car was being sold with the original engine I think, that's worth a bump to a lot of people...

Quote from: QuickSilverShelby on June 06, 2024, 12:22:07 AMI wish I could get additional info on this car, I just don't know where to look out side the registries.  I've been seriously considering taking a run at a 65 but this car really speaks to me.  I've been spending allot of time on the track these days in my 13 BOSS 302s and a 65 track car like this would check so many boxes.  Way more affordable then a fully restored award winner and I'd be less concerned with driving/tracking it.

I'd just like to know more of it's history and any additional info that might be available.  Anyone, anyone, class, anyone??

QSS

I don't have any info on this particular car, but I vintage raced and participated in a lot of open track events with an original '65 GT350 for several years.  It was heavily modified for racing at that time, I can tell you it was by far the most fun I ever had in a car!  More so than my Cobra, Ferrari's and several other vintage cars.  Go for it.  It's a blast to run around in an authentic '65 GT350 that is loud and bad-ass.  Wish mine was still in race trim.  Wasn't worth as much then, but the fun I had was truly worth more than the money.  Buy it and drive it!

Sounds like a good time.

Did I miss it or did you say the name and location of the museum?

Looks like a nice car, but I have never tried to title and register a car that only comes with a registration, is that common?

I just bought a car out of CT, I needed a copy of the registration and also a bill of sale.  It wasn't even the most recent registration..
I titled in Montana and it all worked out fine.  No sales tax, saved a bunch of $$.

I recently formed a Montana LLC to title and register a couple cars.  Worked fine so far!  I would recommend.

Wanted to Buy / Re: 1967 GT 500 parts wanted

Just saw a December block on Facebook group 1965-70 Shelbys buy and sell.  If you can't find it PM me.  It was expensive...

I would caution that the collar on the columns may be slightly different from the '66 to a '67...  I've had personal experience that there is some interference that can be corrected.  Perhaps it was unique to my car, but an over the counter '66 wheel did not fit my '67 exactly right.  I think it could be corrected, but it wasn't a bolt on swap.  If you want more explanation PM me.
