Last month, I booked a room as soon after the hotel information was released.  The discount code for the special SAAC room rates was not available as I was not able to register for the event since my July schedule is not known at this time.  I usually make my flight, auto rental and other reservations three to six weeks prior but five months is not workable for me.  I am sure that many others find themselves in the same boat, not knowing whether employment, health, family issues, etc. will affect their ability to attend this far ahead of the event.

The new policy requiring event registration to obtain the special hotel rates, therefore, is both unfair and unreasonable, especially when you  charge a cancellation penalty.  From what I have heard, the reason behind this new policy is that there were a large number of cancellations last year which resulted in increased costs to the club.  As unfortunate as that was, it is quite inappropriate and unfair to take it out on us long-term members and frequent SAAC attendees who have never cancelled instead of sanctioning the offenders.

Please reconsider this policy and either make the special rate hotel rooms available without conditions or eliminate the event cancellation penalty.

 Good grief, how many times can he call this car a "slabside" (an unfortunate Superformance term)?  He also tells us that the original cars were equipped with top-loaders.  Once you get past his misinformation and key fumbling, however,  the video was worth watching.  Thanks for posting.

I have seen several original 289 roadsters with the exhaust exiting in front of the rear wheel.  The owner of one of these cars explained that the installation of the optional competition rear suspension took up the space required for the full-length rear-exiting exhaust.  Was this a popular option and was the standard muffler system used on the side exhaust cars?

I have been told by former Shelby employees that the side scoops and rear quarter windows were not available for 1965 production cars.  Several competition models such as 5R100 and 5R103 were later equipped with the brake scoops and other competition cars eventually were retrofitted with quarter windows which offered a weight saving and greatly increased visibility.

Like deathsled, my car is equipped with a 3:50 rear end and turns 4,000 at 70mph; this is on BFG 14" radial T/A's.

Three years ago, I conducted a survey of actual auction results for 1966 GT350s for the previous five years.  After discarding the extremely low figures for rust buckets or cars with incorrect equipment as well as those selling on the extreme high end (1966 GT350 convertible, celebrity cars, charity fund raisers, etc.), I found that Hagerty's of $175,000 and up for correct condition 1 and 2 cars was more accurate than most other sources.  Also, a friend purchased a 4-speed numbers matching condition car for $175,000 the year before.

If you have one of these cars and purchase and agreed value policy from Hagerty, that is the price they will pay in the event of loss with no deductible.

The white rally stripes, from what I have read, are Chevrolet commercial white or Chevrolet bright white.  Can anyone please provide specifics?  Also, I would appreciate advice on how to prevent clear coat making the white stripes look yellowish.

I also have 215/60/14 BFG's on a non-lowered car.  These are good tires for the money.  I only use the car for cruise-ins and shows so I don't know how well they perform on wet roads, snow or on the track.

The information I received many years ago is that since Ford did not have a true white paint in 1966, only Wimbledon white, Chevrolet Commercial White was used.  When the cars were first introduced in the spring of 64, Ford made a limited number of Indy 500 pace cars that were bright white with blue interiors.  When I visited the parts counter at my friendly local Chevrolet dealer and asked for Chevrolet Commercial White, they said "Which one?"; there are apparently 6-8 choices.  I suppose you can't go wrong having a skilled painter simply match the white side stripes.

Based on the information published about this car, the buyer got a real good deal.  He/she can enjoy it as it is or can elect to change out the wheels, trans, etc. to make it correct and still not be upside down.

Is there a schedule of events for SAAC-45 yet? 

I saw a new series CSX8000 car that had a spring clip on the back of the Shelby American plaque. This plaque was clipped to the transmission tunnel where one section of carpet overlays another and allows for the plaque to easily be removed if desired but your car may not have that carpet feature.

Thanks guys.  The guy working on my engine is having trouble locating posi locks in the size needed and is hesitant to machine the block.  I am hoping we can find a way to use the positive seals vs the umbrella seals.
