When the time does come for the CJs engine compartment to be re detailed, I will give the Jet Hot a try on those exhaust manifolds.

It's available on Amazon for $23.00. It's actually a set of 302 exhaust manifolds going on a 1976 Mustang II. I removed and glass beaded them. I'm going to give that stuff a try and I'll report on how well or not well it works.

Quote from: Royce Peterson on October 30, 2024, 08:08:29 AMI think your experience was caused by many factors. One you used headers instead of manifolds. Two you went to a subsidiary in another city - they may not have done the best job. It's hard to sandblast headers and get good results. Manifolds are a lot simpler.

I didn't make that clear. It was a Jet Hot dealer. I think they were in Downingtown Pa. So in your experience, The Jet Hot works better on cast iron than steel?

Unfortunately for me, I had a less than satisfactory experience with jet hot coating. In 2010 I drove to Pennsylvania with my Doug Thorley crossover headers for my station wagon to have them coated. They were used just like most exhaust manifolds would be used and I was told immediately that there is warranty for durability on used parts. I went for the $425 to have them coated anyway. The coating literally flaked off within 2 years! And this was less than 700 miles of Street driving! I've been spraying them with high heat paint every 2 years since because I'm not doing that coating again. Or did I just happen to get a bad job? Oh, and before the comments about the engine being run too lean causing higher exhaust temps, I always run my carb on the rich side and 36 degrees total timing. I'd rather burn a little more fuel than risk burning a piston.

Like the title says, does anyone remember the name of that stuff you wipe on cast iron parts and exhaust manifolds to keep them from rusting? I'm doing a set, and I'd like to try it out instead of high heat paint that always flakes off after a while.

Wanted to Buy / Re: Power window switch

Have you tried taking the switch apart and cleaning the contacts? It's almost a regular Maintenace procedure on my 1960 Thunderbird and I have had good luck with other switches. Or is it just you don't have enough of them?

Not exactly Apples to Apples comparison as I have a four-speed in my Fairlane station wagon so you have to account for some torque converter slippage and I am running a 28 inch tall rear tire (275/60/15). In 4th gear, 3.50 gears give me 3000 rpm at 70 mph. 3.25 gears gave me 3000 rpm at 75 mph. 4.11 gears gave me 3000 rpm at 55 mph. 3.89 gears gave me 3000 rpm at 60. Mph Figures were gathered using Waze give or take a mile an hour or two. I've tried all these gears and for my car the 3.50s were the best compromise. If your car has lower height tires the 3.25s might make a better choice. The overdrive transmission would be the best choice if you would like to keep the 4.11s but also the most expensive one.

1965 GT350/R-Model / Re: 1965 9" Third Member Unique?

I believe all 65 and 66 Shelby's ran 28 spline axles. That is why they use the standard case instead of the nodular iron case that has the square cast into it that the 31 spline axle cars like 427 full size Fords and Mercury's used. I'm not sure if R models or other race cars used the nodular case and larger axles but it would make sense that they did to keep breakage at a minimum.

From the cases I have seen there seems to be no difference in a case that came out of a Shelby, a Fairlane, a Mustang or a Galaxy or a Thunderbird. Just find one with an appropriate date for your car. Of course these housings are kind of like starter delays on 68 and 1/2 KRS. All 1968 Ford and Mercury's with 428 and 429 engines built after March 1st 1968 came with them but because they were used in KR Shelby's they bring a premium price. Others may have more knowledge than me though.

Quote from: Lincoln tech on July 30, 2024, 06:55:48 PMThanks to all who voted for our 68 and 1/2 Mustang 428 Cobra Jet GT. Unfortunately as soon as I pulled the car out of the trailer Friday morning I grabbed my chairs stepped out of my trailer door right into a divot in the grass fell down and broke my right ankle and sprained my left ankle. But that didn't stop me from taking my five parade laps around the track and going to the Friday dinner and show Saturday and driving all the way home Sunday with a broken ankle. I found out it was broken Sunday when I went to the hospital after I got home. So for those of you who didn't vote in the top 25 I managed to do it with a broken ankle.🙂

Wow that's a tough start , you do have one beautiful car , Congrats  :)

Thank you very much!😎

Quote from: z-man on July 29, 2024, 10:47:00 AMFor those who were there, THANK YOU for attending the SAAC/Team Shelby Car Show on Saturday.

The day was beautiful, and so were all the cars on display.  Here are a few 'stats' from the show:

 - 114 cars registered for the show, but there were over 200 cars on display
 - 107 people voted in the Popular Ballot portion of the show.  That's 94% participation!
 - 736 votes were cast to determine the Popular Ballot winners
 - The car that won "People's Choice" had 29% of the attendees vote for it
 - The Judged Class was selected by 4 judges, consisting of both SAAC and Team Shelby members

Very special thanks to the Team Shelby crew who helped set up the show, park the cars, register/check-in the attendees, answer questions, judge cars, help with the awards ceremony, then break it all down and pick up the trash!

Additional thanks for our show sponsors, Cobra Automotive, Inc. (care of Curt Vogt) and Tony D. Branda Shelby & Mustang Part (care of Anthony D. Branda II).

Trophies were presented as per the below list. Congratulations to everyone who went home with 'glass' from the show.....
