Same story here except he was asking about my 350.  Voicemail was left on July 31st and I called later in the day.  We never did talk about price just what condition of car he was looking to acquire.  He was very polite but told me he was in the finance business after I asked if he was a dealer.  Also said he tracked me down through the registry.

Nice to see the cars are still sought after.

I can add 0062 has the removable roll bar cover.

Very interesting . Thanks for relaying the info. Unlike trying to legitimize a dipped roll bar in a early car it is extremely unlikely that someone would take a later car that had a dipped bar that had been damaged and replace it with one of the roll bars with the removable cover. That scenario is highly improbable.  This is because the removable cover rollbars are so extremly rare . I had to buy a entire car to get one 30+ years ago . It would be even more improbable and expensive to do the same thing today. I have only seen one removable cover rollbar for sale in all my years. It was a guy who made a radical restomod and didn't want any of the original parts. It was in the high 50's I think. By contrast there are I am sure a number examples of the removable cover roll bar cars that had their cover lost or torn and have been replaced with the dipped bar. Relatively speaking compared to the removable cover rollbars you somewhat frequently see later production 67 dipped roll bars cut from cars for whatever reason and for sale.

Bob, I don't have anywhere close to the experience that you have but I completely agree.  This was the first auction of a very early 350 that I have followed and I am thankful for the information you and Brian Styles shared. If I can provide anything of substance concerning my car please let me know.

How well attended has this been in the past?  Interested in going this year and considering showing my car.

Thanks,

I don't believe there is a correct answer to the orginal post.  Investment buyers will either pass on the car or discount it more than an enthusiast.

From my point of view I look at the replacement engine, assuming it has the same components and date correctness, as I would a repaint in the same color.  Slight discount but not a deal killer.

As the owner of a car with a "not correct" engine this is something that I have looked into recently.  My car has had a 302 for at least 35 years and I have always wondered how it affected the value.  From what I've been told by people with knowledge in the market was to expect a decrease of about $ 20,000.00.  That number seems reasonable to me.  I am currently in the process of having a correct 289 Hipo installed and only part of the decision was added value.  I think the car deserves to have the engine it was produced with even it isn't the exact one.  I will never know the exact effect on the value but I do know I can't wait to get behind the wheel!

Hope this helps,
Mike
