69 GT500 rear leaf springs

What is the best way to replicate the look for the rear leaf springs on a 69 GT500?

The best way is in a large vat of phosphate... then oil. Phosphate paint is fine.

Different people use different process from cold color processes like Insta Black followed by a protective micro film oil to painting with an light oil. For paint , when I was still going that route, I used Eastwoods or other companies phosphate as a base (not to heavy a coat so it looks painted) then two light dry coats of dark charcoal metallic (same think as black interior paint. Of course painted "natural finishes" are harder to keep up and repair when you get rust spots

Of course you will need to disassemble the springs and the clamps are bare straight (untreated) steel so they will have a contrasting look to them when compared to the dark heat treated/quenched look of the leaves
