Krylon 1909 Ford Blue

...Anyone know a current rattle can equivalent? Just use it for touch-ups, my last can is done. Looks like the old Krylon 1909 is now unobtainium.

In a Google search it comes up as availale in about a dozen diffeent locations including Summit Racing. Did you Google it?

Yes sir, googled like crazy. Got quite a few hits but every time I looked into the links....nada. Either out of stock, unavailable, not even mentioned, etc. The name probably buried somewhere in those links as click-bait.

Looks like Dupli-Color DE1601 is the closest?

VHT #SP134 FORD LIGHT BLUE. It's about right on my 67.

The Dark Blue or sometimes called Mustang Blue seems to be right on the Clevelands and later engines up to about 1975. It's too dark on a '67.

Officially there is only Ford Corporate Blue, but as previusly discussed, it seems to be somewhat of a batch color and varies slightly from plant to plant.

Then again, it's probably really up to you what you think looks the best if not the most original. It is controversial at least to me.


I would think that likely a '66 would be like this rather then the darker blue as well? I'm sure Bob will comment on this as well as others of significant experience on the subject.


I also acknowledge what Bob said about not relying on the color seen on the monitor as accurate necessarily but I will state that what I am seeing on my monitor and the actual color of the paint seems to me to be highly accurate.

"Over the years" I can't comment on but the VHT for me has been consistent over the last ten or so.

I compared it to an oil pan that I did around 20 years ago and I couldn't see where I "touched it up".

Who knows how shaking a 20 year old can will effect the color? I don't.

He was referring to buying the "same" color a year or two later and it doesn't match as opposed to dusting the old can on the shelf off.

I've always thought of Ford dark blue as the almost black/blue they used on the Y Blocks in the late 50s. Guess my age is showing.

Thanks for the help and photos! Obviously digital colors can be deceiving but those look really close to the Krylon 1909 I've been using, I'll give the VHT #SP134 a try...

It isn't the digital photos, it's the monitors. Digital is right on. The monitors? Hum? Kind of like mixing Kodak film with a Fugi process?

I'd agree that your picture looks pretty close to mine as well as 69Mach's.

It's ten bucks a can so it's worth a "shot" so to speak. 


You could always try "Grabber blue"?

Yes, you're right, monitor colors is whet I was referring to. I use a 2-monitor setup for my desktop, the color difference between the two is obvious even though they are "calibrated" using the wonky Windows tool. Hasn't bugged me enough yet to do something more sophisticated...
