Interesting hood feature

My good friend who is a long time '66 Hertz owner asked me if the space seen below the molded in hood scoop was correct as seen in this picture:



He had seen it on a '67 for sale online.  I honestly had never noticed that feature before and had to check to see if it was on my car when I got home from work. Sure enough, it was.  I just wondered how many '67 owners also never noticed this detail before?

Somehow, in my mind I see that spine extending further into the scoop.

But when I checked just now, it looks pretty much just like the one pictured.  🤔

The spine running through the centerline of the car can even be seen in the rear window as it continues the roofline to the trunk lid.
I've heard that Ford design feature was "borrowed" from the '63 Corvette.

And that was borrowed from a 1960 Ferrari 250 which in turn was borrowed from a 1956 Continental MK II!
