67 68 Shelby Owners Beware of Restored Speedometers

I thought I would make sure those who are missing a correct speedometer that the ones in a Shelby will always have a "trip" odometer . That is the one with the long stem under the dial to reset the travel miles. The ones with trip odometer are very hard to find in any form . Most gauge restorers are able to reface a standard 120 to a 140 speedometer but they can not add the trip.  This Ebay auction is just one example of a seller not being clear on purpose . https://www.ebay.com/itm/133864844835  . I have contacted him more then once but no response or change in language. There are others.

Hey Bob,

Thanks for the "heads up," and the succinct education.

I may need to have my '68 speedo repaired for a bobbing needle at speeds below 50MPH. I certainly won't be using that company.

That can be caused by the speedometer cable too.  Possible kink or lack of lube.

I have nothing at the moment to compare. But wouldn't a 1967-68 Cougar XR7 speedometer be the same, but with different type face? Not sure of the reset button length.

+2.  The inner cable can be serviced/replaced.  Graphite is the lube to use.  Make sure there are no kinks and the end is long enough to insert well into the gauge. 
I have one bouncing like that.  Finally quit, by becoming non-functional.  I took it out and apart and the inner cable had finally come apart.  My local NAPA ordered the replacement.  Some brake cleaner thru the outer cable.  Let dry.  Lube.  insert new inner cable and install.  The worst part is dealing with the dash.
