header support brackets

Here are 2 bare metal brackets and 2 painted brackets. The painted ones are repos I believe. The media blasted ones look to be originals. The question is the threaded holes for the bolts to hold the header to the brackets: Should the surface area where the threaded holes are should they be flat? They are flat on the repos. On the originals they are not. The car was hit in the front at one time so do not know if that would have any affect on why these areas are not flat if they are supposed to be. Gary

I take you don't have the car together enough to fit the brackets. Sometimes you have to adjust the angle to fit up flat against the letter panel tabs. You can bend them flat now and adjust later if needed or bend them to the proper contour at the time of fitment to the letter panel.I hope this helps.

Yeah the angle you mentioned might be an issue. What I am concerned about is the mounting area where the  header tabs rest on when you bolt it on. It isn't flat. Are they supposed to be flat like the repos? See pics below

It would be best that they are flat as to not cause any stress on the fiberglass when attached/tightened.  I have some flat tip pliers that work great for that kind of stuff.

Thanks. I was going to drill a hole in a block(for threaded area clearance) to use on the back side  to hammer the area flat

The smooth jaw pliers are Blue-point/Snap-On (Knipex made), in 3 sizes, ADP12, ADP10 and ADP7

Super handy for flattening steel parts like this.  I use mine quite a bit.

Thank you for the tool tip. I'm always looking for tool ideas for myself at Xmas time from the kids. Well the one gave me an apple watch already.  :) :). Gary

Yeah, they are not listed in the snap-on store anymore... If I run across any for sale I'll let you know.  I think I have the ADP10 version.
