Were there problems with Shelby 10 spoke wheels coming loose with conical lugs?

Not that I am aware of  in the real world. I have heard that to justify the type of lugnuts used on the repro wheels.

The standard type of lug nut with the flat washer was on the first repro version.

As far as I can see, it is just the designers discretion?

I've used the original style since around '72 and have never even had to re tighten a lug nut.

I've never even heard of a discussion of this subject in the last 50 years.

I think the original is in fact a very good design and in addition  allows you to use a longer then stock stud if you so choose.

Early 70's I had the left rear 10 spoke loosen on my 68 KR convertible. I would like to think I had properly tightened it. But that event caused me to use a torque wrench for 90 ft-lb ever since then, I never had that problem again, over 140,000 miles on the car.
