The difference is that the original one is made out of one piece of metal and the repro is made out of at least two.

the mesh pattern in #1 is the correct mesh for outboard grilles.

The mesh in image #2 is the mesh pattern for inboard grilles.

(Image comparison of the two mesh types added)

Can you post a whole photo of grille #2?

Good catch JD . Once  I saw the mesh was added separably made it non factory  I stopped.  I forgot to mention grill mesh size to complete the critique on the two pictured grills. There are nice repro correct one piece small mesh outboard grills available.

Thanks for posting the additional images of #2 Grille, in theory (to my understanding) this version never happened (outboard grilles with inboard mesh pattern material).

Only the repro outboard grill's in a combination of a short cut move and or lack of knowledge of the difference were made with the larger mesh used on the inboard grills . Branda has always been the leading seller of the grills. A friends company has made the grills for Branda since at least the early 80's.  The transition to the smaller mesh design for the outboard grills provided more protection to the radiator compared to the large inboard mesh. FYI the outboard mesh moves more air to the radiator disregarding the lack of headlights in the way.

JD:  I bought an early GT 350 project about a month ago....
And I'm trying to sort out these grilles.
I received (5) ...Inboards/Outboards/Reproduction/Original...

Can you see how I could get confused?

LOL..!

Yes, thanks for posting the images.

On this topic see attached, repro inboard grille - note this is the later vertical upper grille version that fits and fills the upper opening.  These have added segments (added on each side/end) to make the grille wide enough to fill the upper opening.

The grille mesh is available in 3 foot and 4 foot widths, the maker is buying the 3 foot version which is not wide enough and then adding extra material pieces to make the width fit the opening.  Note weld on back.  The 3 foot material the last segments go with "wide, narrow, wide"

An original, see attached front and back, note the vertical ribs hold the "wide, narrow, narrow" pattern (every 3rd vertical rib is wide followed by 2 narrow) all the way across.

All versions have a wide center vertical rib.

What a shame the MFG short cut the process.
