Shelby GT500 trans repairs

Hello community. My friend just bought a beautiful GT500 and he pulled the trans out as it was slipping ; questions about who's parts to use? Torque converter stall ? And who's making good ones? Thanks Jim ( probably good question for Randy?) or?

we had a 69 428 R mach 1 with a C6 and a slight hydraulic camshaft, headers, aftermarket exhaust and 3.9 gears

We opted to go with a transgo rebuild kit.

I had a friend who had a local transmission repair shop.  When he viewed the transgo kit he insisted that he could get the same parts locally for much less than the price we paid for the kit.

We opted to go with the transgo kit, once built it was bulletproof. 

We also put on a reverse valve body also from transgo. I loved it but everyone one else hated it.

Because you had to constantly manually shift the car ALL the time as if it was a stick car 1-2-3

Once you came to a stop you have to place the transmission back to 1 then 2 then 3

If you leave it in 2 or 3 it's the same result as a manual shifting from 1 to 3 or 4 the engine will diesel or knock on you.

As far as converter we had no need to have a higher stall, we went with stock.

If I did it all over again today I would have used the local transmission parts, still stock converter and a regular transgo hi-po shift kit

For the street, I would not suggest a HiPo shift kit, while it firms the shifts up, it may ruin the experience for your friend since he is driving it strictly on the street. Especially given the stock "R" servo already offering a firmer "feel" while shifting gears

Call them to confirm, but this is what a good friend just used for his 428CJ 69 Mach I and he and his loving wife both love the end results.

On the shift kits they had different stages from firmer to full race.  I would still go with firmer shift but not full race.

You are correct it was our 77 78 f250 that used that fluid in its transmission
