Where did Al Grillo go?  Fish Food or Witness Protection no one knows!
The principal witness against this defendant as well as against the defendants in the Count I trial was an alleged accomplice named Vincent Teresa.3 He testified that in early October 1967 he placed a telephone call in Boston to the defendant in New Jersey and asked him if he could obtain some counterfeit bonds. The
defendant suggested that Teresa call him back later that day. Upon doing so, defendant told him that he had obtained some bonds and would fly them to Boston the next morning, which he did. Teresa and Mondovano4 picked
up the defendant at Logan Airport in Boston the next morning. The trio went to a restaurant where the defendant gave the other two, fifty counterfeit IT&T bonds with a face value of $1,000 each. It was agreed that the defendant would receive 20% of the proceeds of the sale of these bonds, which percentage Teresa agreed he would deliver to the defendant in New Jersey. After driving the defendant back to Logan Airport on the same day, Teresa and Mondovano went to Lynn, Massachusetts, and delivered the counterfeit bonds to one Al Grillo, who ran a Ford agency there. The evidence further shows that within the next few days Grillo took ten of these bonds, along with certain other bonds,5 to a Boston attorney named Sriberg, who on October 9 pledged them to the New England Merchants National Bank as security for a $19,500 loan. Sriberg endorsed the bank's check for $19,500 and gave it to Grillo the same day. Grillo later showed this check to Teresa and upon cashing it gave him $19,000. As agreed, Teresa took $9,000 to New Jersey and gave it to the defendant.
AL GRILLO FORD, Lynn, MA (formerly Nel-Nick/ Shelby and high performance dealer)
Al Grillo Ford was a high performance dealership located at 220 South Common Street in Lynn, Massachusetts. Al Grillo purchased Nel-Nick Motors in early 1967. Nel-Nick was already established as a heavy hitting performance dealership and Al Grillo carried the tradition forwards. The Shelby factory drag car serial number SFM6S021 was originally sold to Hi Performance Motors in California, but in 1967 it was transferred to Al Grillo Ford. Grillo had a full inventory of speed parts including complete 427 SOHC engines and resident speed specialists in house to soup up your car. Grillo sold over 70 1968 Shelbys. Grillo's mob associations resulted in money loss and Ford shutting down the dealership. Grillo's business went to Lynden Ford while his assets were bought up by Yaz Ford. The 1969 Shelby's and other inventory cars were sent to other dealerships. Grillo 'disappeared' around the start of the 1970s. It is speculated that he was killed for outstanding mob debts.

I live in Peabody Mass. which is next to the city of Lynn. I am fortunate to know a gentleman who was a mechanic at Grillo Ford and he has shared some very interesting memories with me. Shame on me I have not pinned him down to recored his recollections. This man is in his mid 70's so I need to get off my duff and do it.

He was kind enough to give me two of the four original dealer trunk tags that he still had. I shared photos of these tags with Pete several years ago but they never made it to his Al Grillo page...are you there Pete?...I can send you the pictures again ;D

Do a Google search for Larry Megabow. He faked his own death. It is unknown if he is "sleeping with the fishes" or in the witness protection plan.

He was an independent "Classic Car Dealer" in New Jersey in the late '70s and tried to corner the Cobra market. He swindled one to many buyers.
