Interesting VIN issue on a Mustang

Lots of odd things going on here. The buck tag looks legit until you turn it over. I have never seen that before.

For a 66 NJ buck tag it does not appear to be shaped like what was typically used so even before its turned over the shape and the extra holes it would raise questions. The blanks typically used this year and plant has a wavy top and bottom edge rather than a straight edge rectangle we see but turing it over we see why it doesn't

For later cars it was not unusual to find door tags (full size 66 and up size) used to make buck tags. In this case using a 65 door tag in 66 for one IMHO would be unusual but not be really surprising - especially from the NJ plant. Also not that the buck tag removed from the car lacks any of the punched through inspection markings though not all cars built there that year had buck tags with the punching.


The lack of VIN's on the car is a whole "nother subject.

Not uncommon for any of the plants to use warranty tag blanks and recycle them as buck tags. I have multiple examples and even on Shelbys.

In the comments section under the video, some are saying this car without VINs may well be a test mule. I am (highly) skeptical, but any thoughts on this possibility?

Not even a remote possibility

Ford could not release such a car.

I think we can agree the buck tag is probably not from the car.

I havent tried capturing it yet.

Only Mustang I've seen and even owned without the usual factory hidden VINs was a car that the plant apparently changed the order for (so changes the drivetrain type) mid stream during the bucking process. Still don't know why they just didn't continue building the car as specified in the first place.

Was interesting car but ended up crushing the car since it was going to be an up-hill ongoing stack of issues I didn't want to address. Worked good as a conversation piece for a decade of so

On the 66 it would have been nice to see what the paperwork had as a VIN or a picture of the door tag though he mentions the data didn't match (paint and interior) so likely off another car - possibly

You could buy full Ford side panels (both aprons and shock tower)
