This wasn't off a barnfind, the PO actually drove the car like this.

Knowing a little about filtration....... both air and liquid filter media doesn't reach it's maximum efficiencies, until a level of contaminants are present...... I truly believe the PO you refer to, overshot the runway just a little !

Bob, I sort of expected to find excessive contaminants on a car that has seen minimal driving time over the last 20 years, but the rust is crazy!  Where was the car being driven, underwater?  Thankfully, the rest of the engine doesn't have the seem level of rust.

It was in there so long, it even brought some of the air cleaner paint with it !

Actually, the top lid, this filter and the bottom were all FUSED together.  Never seen that before.  :o
