So thanks to Vern and Bob I bought a carryover a couple years ago.
This past fall I let the 14 1/2 year old daughter begin to learn to drive a stick, which some of the neighbors got a kick out of. Enjoyable time for both of us.

Great Job Dave!  I had a similar situation last summer when my 18 year old nephew wanted to learn to drive a manual transmission.  He was visiting my home in North Carolina from Massachusetts.  My brother (in the passenger's seat) had tried to find a car up there to rent in order to teach him, but that's not so easy today.  I offered my '65 convertible, and it was truly a special moment.  You are brave using your Shelby though, lol.

I taught my son to drive stick in my carryover, but he was 31 at the time. I like your idea better - start 'em young.

I recently bought a '66 E-Type FHC and love it. A different driving experience from my V8 monsters, but is fun and gorgeous.

Well see. Right now the first couple hours was getting used to operating the clutch, slowing down, timing, turning with manual steering in a culdesac without taking out a mailbox.  Never got out of 1st gear. Basically a half mile loop between 2 culdesacs on a mostly private street. Neat thing to me was once she got in a driving rhythm she started opening up with info about school, friends, teachers etc without any prodding or prying.

Very cool. It's not always easy to bond with your teen son or daughter.

I taught my daughter to drive a stick in the local school parking lot on weekends before she had a learner's permit. She did fantastic until I made her stall it (to show her what would happen and how to restart it). After that, she kept stalling it.
