Trying to figure out the approximate time they went from Fomoco to Autolite on the  breather caps for a GT350  or 500.  Im guessing it was pretty early

1183 has one of each.  FoMoCo on the valve cover, Autolite on the oil fill.  1/26/67 SJ GT500 thermactor car.

Try Jack at Dead Nuts On.  I believe he restores 68 to 70 oil caps. www.deadnutson.com.

I was able to very carefully pry an original 65-66 FoMoCo cap apart and have the housing re-chromed. Turned out nice but what a PITA...

Maybe the most ideal was but the most typical way these get done is you end up burning out the inside filter material (so it doesn't contaminate the chrome tank) and then chroming the the complete assemblly. The bottom half was not originally chrome but it is not seen once installed. You have to then carefully stuff some filter material (steel wool is one option) passed the cross bar (in the case of the twist on cap) . The push on caps are easier to re stuff because you can fill the long push on neck with material without worrying about a obstruction to get past.

I think Jim is looking for a range - serial or build date wise - so as to post the correct cap in the rules, or, on a restoration he is doing.

You think?  ::)  I know I was waiting to see what others thought before commenting.

Maybe the others are waiting to see what you thought before commenting.  I am fairly sure it was before the May 3, SJ completion date of my car, #2339.

This can be a trick question. I don't believe the change happened at the same time for any of the different style caps. I believe the change happened for the GT500 oil filler /GT350 valve cover cap later then the GT500 valve cover cap for instance. The GT350/GT500 filler /valve cover cap in Feb 67 and the valve cover change around April 67. The GT350 closed emission cap probably in May 67.All are approximate dates based on what I have observed. FYI the GT350 closed emission cap changed from FOMOCO in script inside the oval to FOMOCO in block letters inside the rectangle. That cap didn't change to Autolite until 69 production IMO.
