What 235,000 miles looks like

After 52 years and 235,000 miles the differential had started making a little noise, not terrible budget busting noise, just "I'm tired and need an overhaul" type of noise
The bearings and races all looked pretty good, the ring and pinion looked almost like new, but here is the most worn part, the center pin for pinion and side gears.
It has worn down about a 1/32 - 1/16 of an inch. This could explain the "chuckle type" noise I was hearing when slowing down
I also noticed the little "oil slinger" type pump on the carrier housing. I had never seen one before
Is it unique to mid 60's 9 inch Ford?
Parts will be here this week and hopefully back on the road on Saturday or Sunday

       The slinger was common on "lower" gear ratios like 3.89 it was an attempt to improve oiling to the carrier bearings and was eventually dropped around '68.

    Cross shaft wear after that many miles is to be expected as you mentioned. A new shaft , two spiders and washers and you'll be good as new.

All bearings and the side and pinions gears along with a shaft are on order and should arrive on either Wednesday or Thursday. Back together on Friday and hopefully back in the car on Saturday

I pulled 67_1183's original SPEC case carrier out of storage a couple of weeks ago to take some pictures.  It felt much heavier than I remembered.  Last time I messed with any of these was when I swapped the original 325 open carrier out for a 3L50 carrier about 40 years ago.  Was still using bias ply tires back then and thought the Traklok would make a difference in take off.  Nope, two tires burning as long as I held the throttle down.  Changing to P235R60 radials fixed that.

It was due for sure Time for some TLC.. and I'll bet getting it in and out will not "makes me feel 21 again". Years ago I welded up a little brace that fit in my floor jack saddle... worked well and kept them balanced . Good luck !

It definitely not feeling like I'm 21 again doing this. Even though I've spent a number of hours under the car over the past 47 years. We have the car on a scissor style rack so it only a few feet off the ground. So it's on my back on a creeper lifting it out. Its somewhat heavier then I remembered but still manageable. Parts are due today so its back together tomorrow or Friday and back in the car on Saturday

After a few weeks of 70 degree weather, 8 inches of snow, fighting fitting a radiator back into a 1969 427 Corvette with P/S and A/C I'm going to put the rear back in this Saturday and it's supposed to be a "frozen mix" type of day
