seems like a absurdly high price for such an item, not critising the buyer or seller just want to understand the reasoning behind the final price.

Wow! Those lock knobs were probably $1.29 back in 65 from Ford. Seems absolutely outrageous but I get it, sometimes it's hard not to get caught up in owning the perfect stuff for you Shelby.

I have seen those sell on eBay auctions a couple times and the prices were right around $250.

I guess the repops are really bad?

It actually took 4 bidders to get this item this high and 2 over those bidders went head to above $200 to get to the final sale price.  WOW

anyone care to advise there opinion on nos examples versus repos.  sure there would be more mustangs/shelbys out there with repos than original or NOS examples.

Well in the big picture it was only 4 people out of hundreds or even thousands of people who did not bid for them. In my opinion 4 people do not define the market price. But that's just my opinion.

Sometimes it's not always a sale, but someone attempting to manually manipulate the market. I'm not saying that is what has happened here, just that it happens. We first saw it in the early days, before the internet with 308 Ferrari's, then vintage 60's corvettes, on the web, "R" Model, late model Mustangs, even vintage Shelbys. Now this same effect may have trickled down to the parts market. Again, not saying that occurred here, just pointing out a certain trend that pops up every now and then with the "my last NOS set sold for XXXX, don't let this newly found NOS set I did not even know I had get away". All else fails, you can review the bidding history percentages of the high bidders with the seller in question and come to your own conclusions, one way or the other.

Many years ago I put a set of NOS 68-70 "SHELBY" letter set in the Ford boxes for sale on Ebay. I thought I had 2 sets when I started the auction but had 3"L"s and only 1 S. The set set sold for 525.00. I WISH I had a complete second set as I could have sold it to the second highest bidder with a second chance offer for 520.00. I have never seen them that high before or after the auction. I finally traded with Mario P the extra L for an S so I had another complete set. Then with ones after that sometimes not breaking a 100 I kept the set as a spare for my 70. I had 2 sets of 69 Mustang front bumperettes in straight restorable condition. Sold 1 set for 110 and offered the second set to the next highest bidder. He never responded. I then put that set on Ebay and got a 160.00 for it. I had a brand new set of Koni shocks on Ebay(1982 dates). At 400 with less than a day a guy offers me 525 for my second set(1992 date) so I gambled and sold my second NOS to him. Then in the last hour of the auction that set sells for almost 800.00. My Point? Nothing surprises me on eBay and I am an occasional seller at best. Gary

C5AZ-6221850-A is listed for a '65 Galaxie.  The correct Mustang one is C5DZ-6221850-A

I seem to remember that there is a thread difference between the 2, the C5AZ doesn't screw onto the 65-66 lock shafts, but will work on a 67.
