And to no surprise the replacement SFM tag looks like a replacement tag. Probably this best thing SA did was make a nearly impossible to replicate  original stamping.

 Sorry , I took the weekend off.  AGAIN , no ill will towards any subsequent owners. What happened , happened.
    Many years ago when I heard the car ''appeared" I contacted Dwiight , Howard ( Pardee) and Orange (Ca) PD as I said.  Dwight  contacted the insurance co  who told him they had sold to another insurance company at least once and the records were gone. They couldn't even "sell" the title back to him as they didn't have it . The title had fallen off of the California DMV radar because of the time lapse. The insurance co "could" have filed for a duplicate title "IF" they could have found the records in their system. So despite being the last "registered owner , Dwight was helpless and the insurance co was only "out" what they paid him in the '70s when it was stolen. The insurance company didn't want to put any effort into returning it to them OR Dwight.  Cars are stolen EVERY day I get it. BUT when a "community" like ours gets together and goes on the lookout for the car , I would hope the car or what's left would be returned.
   Don't let this happen to you , is my point. I AM happy the car wasn't chopped up and or destroyed and that it wasn't my car . Nothing could be done then and that is still the situation.

    Yes several Corvettes ( over time) have been found here at the Long Beach shipping yards. The difference is the original owner still had the "pink slip". Those were returned after some 30 years.
     The current owner of 637 did NOTHING wrong in the eyes of the law as I am fairly sure the "theif" "forgot" to mention the car was stolen when it resurfaced a while back. It IS obvious that "someone" knew it and used the Ford vin to disguise the fact. THAT person should pay the price. Dwight doesn't care as he really didn't have enough time to "bond" with it like many of us have.

My old employer had his 1970 Chevelle stolen in 2013.  Grundy tried to pay him.
He turned down the big check.  FBI got the car back for him in 2014.
