Oil pan removal

Is it possible to remove aluminum oil pan from 66 GT350H while engine is still in the car?
Never attempted this, but would rather not pull the engine.

Yes, it is possible.  It is easiest if you lower the steering linkage first.

and remove the frame cross member.

Yes. after raising the front of car or on lift, Drop the crossmember under the oil pan, (2 bolts), and detach pass side idler arm at  torque box or center link. that will allow enough clearance to remove pan with the minimum amount of disassembly.

Will it come off with starter in place?

the starter comes off with two bolts and the cable, just take it off and you'll have plenty of room, leave it on and you'll invent new and offensive curse words

I concur with the three suggestions:

1) Remove cross-member under pan (Impact wrench on bolts if they give you a problem.)
2) Remove starter
3) Drop idler arm attached to frame.

I have followed this recipe and it worked out fine.  I installed a SHELBY letter T-pan and no leaks.

Thanks for all your replys. Every other time I have had a pan off, engine was sitting on stand.
Time to fix that leaking oil pan gasket.

I did it as described above in order to replace a leaking rear main seal using a "Sneaky Pete".  Check to be sure that yours isn't the seal rather than the pan gasket.
