65 Headers

For those of you with 4-tube headers on your 65 mustang 289/302 Windsor with a C4, what brand header did you select and why? Did you have clearance issues between collector and e-brake cable pivot point on drivers side? Header really close to drivers side frame right where hard fuel line is?
The old hookers I have dry fitted are too close to gas line and conflicts with emergency brake bracket mounted at front inside on drivers side frame rail. Other than getting a bigger hammer, not sure what to do here short of ordering a different supplier in hopes theirs fit better than the Hookers.

I'd recommend the JBA 6610. I can't attest to the fit on a 65. I have them on my '68. The specs do say something about the 65 hand brake pivot.

I had Hooker's on it but I didn't like how low the collectors were. The Hookers were 1-5/8" tubes. The JBA are 1-3/4" which are better for the AFR 185 heads.

The Hookers looked wimpy. The JBA's look meaty.

The JBA are also a much easier install as far as header bolts, spark plug wires go.

There are no clearance problems anywhere with the 6610 for my application. They fit much higher up into the chassis and are at least one full tube higher at the collectors then the Hookers are.

Some will argue that there is no difference in power between the header primary sizes. I look at it this way, the bigger tube is worth 1/10th in the 1/4 mile. That means they are making more usable power.

I sold my Hookers for $550. There were a lot of tire kickers bit chin' that headers were only worth $150 but that was in the previous century when Cobras were $2500 cars.

I can post some pictures later if you want to see them on the car?

JBA's a good quality. However, I would venture they set you back about a 1000.00.  Those of us with FE cars have few choices. So we're looking at 1000.00 plus regardless of choice.

$659.33 at Walmart but you need to shop around.

Incidentally, you do know that those headers are 409 stainless (not 30something shiny stainless) and they are going to develop a thick coating of red/brown oxidation (rust) on them right?

I had two sets of the 6610's. The first was the titanium which is absolutely gorgeous. The set that I have now is silver ceramic coated...which is acceptable, but means you have to buff them every so often. The ceramic develops brown crud on the surface that needs to get polished off. :)

Some companies offer satin black. JBA doesn't. They're really nice but tend to get water spots on them for some reason but they look the part.

Most are made of stainless. However, Jet Hot Coating on the inside of the header aids in insulating heat . I am surprised how much heat comes off my headers. It makes the vehicle warm inside.

Many, not most and 409 stainless is the one that rusts. Just more slowly.
