When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love. ~

Cliff Gottlob goes to Daytona.

Cliff bought a new 1967 L-88 Corvette and ran it at Daytona in the early 1970s as well as other races.

At the 1970 Daytona 24 hr race, he  drove the car from Kansas to Daytona, finshed 2nd in class GT +2.0, 11th over all, and drove it home.

David Dooley was the co driver

Moral of the story:

L88s are streatable and get good gas mileage....

In 1958 at the Sebring 12-Hour GP spectators took advantage of any elevated structure (house or airport hanger) to get a good view of the race.

Were we actually that callous about spectator safety back then?

No doubt personal injury lawsuits encouraged the track to adopt a safety conscious stand as the years went on.
