Can anyone help me with what color the Power steering pump should be on my 69 GT350 (build date 1-8-69) at the Dearborne plant? I've seen black and a blue and if its supposed to be blue, what color blue is it?
Thank you

Bob Gaines

It can be ether. Ether color was used on the Dearborn line depending on MFG pump used. The tag on the back of the pump had the mfg indicated on the third line . W was for TRW and was painted black. F indicated Ford Thompson and was painted the blue teal. FYI the blue teal was some what like batch paint in that it changed and varied through out production depending on paint batch mixture it came from . For those that indicate a exact mixture they are mis informed.

Do the differ types of power steering pumps all have identification tags?
Where were they placed?

Any pictures out there?

All that I remember seeing had a tag on the back of the pump where the pressure line connects. Sorry no pics handy.

Also rear pump should have 2 nuts the painted 1 that holds id tag in place then a non painted thin nut that holds index bracket in place. Rear pump index bracket supports rear of pump & holds pump pressure hose in place when installed. We have some of these original brackets on our ebay store & they havent been repoed.

Roger that Ed. Thank you for the info.
Is the Tag also supposed to be painted as per the housing or was it added after the housing was painted. I don't know whether I have the one that is supposed to be blue or black. I have to check the tag.

I will also check the bracket you mentioned and make sure it is the correct one.

With Ed and Nate... your car will be great.

The tag was painted with the housing . If you move it on a unrestored pump you will find a bare metal witness line pattern.
