Try this drinking game when you read the article or watch BJ.  Everytime you read or hear the word Shelby in the broadcast, you must drink (but not the Kool-Aid)

That story is like trying to tie Top Gun Fighter School training with a Cessna, maybe they were at the same facility at some point but that aint no top gun candidate. The more he says SHELBY with the long story line, equates to a major distraction of just representing this car... sad really, cute little car.

Side-Oilers

Agreed.   Plus, by now, is there anyone in the market for a collector car who doesn't know the name Shelby, and doesn't at least know the sound-bite-sized history?

All the screaming in ads and auctions of "Shelby Shelby Shelby" is like Jan Brady yelling "Marcia Marcia Marcia!"  Enough already.

I believe the car was owned by John Timanus(rip) that ran the school and drove the van. Notice how they leave that out and pump CS instead.

I'd love to see the substantiating paperwork, pictures, etc proving it's use at Riverside. I can believe it could have been used as an intro. car for students, especially the inept one's.

There are photos of the Bugeye at the Shelby Driving School and I believe they have been posted on this forum.  Off to a meeting can look later.

It was used for sure. Riverside was best learned in a more "docile" car , then step up to the  "awesome" 260 2bbl Cobra ( CSX 2005)

Great photo's thank you.  This should make for an interesting sale given it's history.

The man in both of those pictures is indeed the late John Timanus (rip)

speaking of Bugeye Sprites . . .

I have two Bugeyes, been driving them since high school, and they are the most fun you can have with your pants on . . .   SWMBO insists that I don't need two, so I'm going to put the Blue one up for sale in the spring . . .  1275, 1-3/4 SU, headers, 5 speed, new clutch, disc brakes, aluminum radiator, alternator, MSD, gorgeous interior, etc. etc . . . $27,500 firm.  No top or side curtains, but who's driving these in the rain?

My Sprite was just featured in a segment on Jay Leno's garage, where he's trying to talk actor Brad Garrett (6'9") into buying a Bugeye.  Scheduled to air in June.

check out the pics.
