so I have a Carb  on my 67 Shelby GT350 with list #4698

I was in need of some new needle and seats for the floats but when I hit the auto shops, they come back with part #3608 which is clearly the wrong needle, also same one in rebuild kits.

I was able to find a match with #23507

Not sure if wrong needle/seats or if my carb is somehow different than the list (maybe other numbers on the carb account for this) or the old books are wrong at the auto shops.

Anyone with similar experience or can shed some light on this?

I have included some pics

Thanks in advance

You need to buy real Holley needle / seat assemblies. Got to https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hly-6-504

The ones like you show in your picture have a tiny drilled round hole that causes fuel starvation. Real Holley needle / seats have a huge square window in the same area that is machined.

Frank,

Looks like you have a carburetor from a 1969 Torino or Mustang with an automatic transmission rated at 600 CFM, P/N C9OZ 9510-N.  I don't have any information as to which engine it was originally fitted to.  I agree, get the original Holley part.  Hope this helps a little.

Yeah, they kept trying to provide ones with the big square holes but none had the solid top and second o ring.  Anyone know which one I should use offhand?

Do not ever use the one you have pictured. It has ruined more bowls than I care to count.
Also the properly primary bowl vent costs $.75 and doesn't look like you threw an orange pump umbrella seal on the lever.

I am new to all this, does anyone know which vent and needle/seat I need to buy (#, or site to buy from)?

Drew Pojedinec

If I was home, I'd just send you some of each.... alas I am not.
Contact Allstate carburetor. They will have the parts you need.
I do not think they list the black bowl vent, but I'm sure I've bought them from there before.

+1  This design, sold in Borg-Warner® brand rebuild kits for decades, will ruin the threads in the bowl in many cases. Like Drew, I have seen more ruined bowls than I can remember. I got to where did not want to work on somebody else's carburetor if this design needle and seat had been installed. Over decades I replaced quite a few bowls.

Thankfully I have a repair kit for that needle and seat threads.
Sadly the kit is $200 and each insert costs over $25... so an expensive repair caused by saving a few pennies on parts.

I sat on the phone for 37 minutes with them and they were unable to tell me which ones would work for the 4698

So if I am correct from my research the 4698 is a 4150 carb and the needles available for that should work? And if open on top I will need to use a Holley needle/seat hardware kit?

Royce Peterson

Buy this one:

Or two if you are replacing both of them.
