Took the 69 Shelby Convertible to a Mustang Club of Houston show this past weekend.  There was a very nice 68 Shelby Convertible, a 68 Shelby Fastback and a 67 Shelby Fastback.  Oddly the Shelby was in a group of Shelby's which included several 2007 - 2019 versions.  There was a first, second and third place for the judges and nothing older than 1978 got a trophy.  I knew I was in trouble when the Judge asked me if a GT500 has 500 horsepower.  The real tragedy was that they gave first place in the Shelby class to my 1978 King Cobra because they did not believe that it was a Mustang >:(

Usually these kind of shows it's best to enter the car as display-only.  Show support for the local club and their charity and enjoy the day worry-free.

Bottom line is you have a very cool car which is "show worthy"...Also rare so most people aren't "up to speed" on it.Dont worry,be happy 8)

No way boy's - I agree with Eric that's a S#!% show vs a car show. I would venture to guess the currant demographics in Houston does not help matters  ::)

When I was in my 20's I had zero interest in 50-year-old cars from the '30s.

Still don't.

Duesenburgs,Cord,Pierce Arrow,Twin Aix Packards, nothing there?

All the more reason for folks to get their cars out and show them and drive them.  Far to long have folks just put them in the garage and kept them as museum pieces afraid to get them dirty.  I promise when you are dead and gone the car will still be here and probably getting driven.... think about that... .

If you bought them for an investment and care about their prices, then you have to invest in showing them to peak the interest of the younger generation.  Remember for most of us, that is exactly what happened.  You saw the car on the street and wanted to learn more and you worked hard to get one.

I'd be curious to see the list of "classes" you had to choose from.

Clubs putting on small shows are often stuck combining classes.  They often change from meet to meet as they look to see who all is showing up at their shows.  The more late model cars showing up, means the more classes in those.  My local clubs often have a "Mustang Pre 1978" class and then a few classes covering the later Mustangs.  I don't blame them as they might, MIGHT have 7 pre 73 Mustangs show up (and we are a Mustang club), then they will have 20 from 2000 to date.
So was there a "Shelby" class?  Or some "Modified" which meant your Shelby and Cobra II wound up in the same class, along with modified cars.  Perhaps they had a "Hot Rod" class also.  It's always a Cr*P shoot on where to put your car.  My friend with a heavily modified 1970 Mach, looks for the class that is "modified" or "hot rod" or "Performance Car" classes.  I decided long ago, to just put mine into the closest "Mustang" class I could and enjoy being out and not worry about any trophy.  Which are up in the attic anyway.  Or as stated, drive over, put it in "Display" and leave 20 minutes before they even begin any awards.

Well, I know if you go to enough car shows, this kind of thing will happen.  I love it when at a popular vote type show, some car (doesn't matter what kind) will show up with an hour left in judging...and still trophies in a popular class.  You know the "fix" was in.
I tropied one time at an auto shop show put on by the High School I went to.  I got the "Aldermans Award"  Why?  Because I happened to write on the show card "Class of 1970"......

I used to do that with the local club but they got greedy and upped the display by 350% to matched the "judged" cost(500 percent the first year in 2014). Since I don't like the President quit going to the show(not the only one). Largest Mustang show because they attract 900 late models for the most part if not more. I'm not talking about our local Shelby club I have supported for a long time. BTW the club I don't support anymore I used to be heavily involved in when it was a non profit and we donated to charity. It gave up it's non profit many years ago I'm told. So the "charity" you donate to is the board of the club to do as they see fit... Trophies, don't need them, don't want them, don't have room for them. That is why I like cruise-in and display only.
